Drew Barrymore- feminist icon?

I've watched a couple of her films recently and think she makes quite a good feministy role model. I dont know if she identifies as a feminist though.

I don't think that actresses can be said to be anything based on their films.

If a woman is a feminist role model it should be because of what she does when she is being herslf, not when she is pretending to be smoeone else.

I dunno, I think if someone consistently chooses films with a particular message you could draw conclusions. I suppose it's possible someone could be an excellent feminist in public and still play roles that sent a very sexist message, but tba I would judge them a bit for it myself. Same as any job.

I love her generally. An awful lot of her roles wouldn't pass the Bechdel test though.

She's an actress, and as others have said, you can't judge depending on the character roles she plays.

Has she said anything in interviews that made you think of her as a feminist, OP?

I think she's a cool actress, but not sure one way or another if she's a feminist... I hope she is though :)

i think she's a very strong woman and i do admire her.

if you look at the films she's in which she has directed or produced herself you generally find her in less 'bimbo' outfits and more jeans and tshirts and big boots.

however, whatever she does herself she's still operating within the rules of hollywood which are never going to be feminist friendly.

Fluffles - that may be true, but wearing jeans and boots does not = feminist icon.

Reducing her to the sum of her physical parts is no better than what Hollywood does by focusing on party dresses and make-up.

no but choosing to dress differently and show less flesh in hollywood does = strong woman imo.
