Is anyone else sick to death of gender colour coding?

This pink and blue thing is well out of hand.
Just watching a documentary on NHS and Dentists and cut to group of 5yr olds clutching tooth brushes. Girls with pink and boys with blue of course!

How did it get to this stage and why can't we stop it?

My experience was that my DS was pretty ambivalent about a lot of things until he started school. After that point - and I can only assume peer pressure was at play - certain things became wholly unacceptable. They included admitting to liking Tellytubbies, Thomas the Tank Engine or anything else 'babyish'. Pink became as Kryptonite to Superman... to be avoided at all costs. And girls were all written off as 'bossy'. The ferocity of the posessiveness towards gender identity in an effort to be accepted by peers surprised me and I don't think anything I could have said or done at that stage would have stopped it. PS... he has always preferred a red toothbrush!
