BBC item today about all the missing females in India

Apparently the situation is worsening, a result partly due to wider access to the technology and people having more money. I think that there was always a hope that with increased education and more wealth the problem would start to correct itself. Instead it seems these factors are making things worse.

How sad that women are so undervalued here. Don't they realise that their precious sons will have no-one to marry if the ratios continue to decline!

And of course no doubt the effects of this in the future will be harmful to women when there aren't enough of them to go round.

Isn't it miserable that the two largest economies / populations in the world (India and China) both have such appalling attitudes towards females.

The other point (touched on in the article) is that not all of the missing females are aborted, many of them are killed when they are born or are very small, many others die of neglect/starvation as families don't want to "waste" precious resources on female children.

Its very very sad that this happens, not sure what we could do to stop it though
