if a crime happened many years ago and justice wasnt done-does that mean that it cant never be done?
how long are records[at police station]kept for?
how long is evidence kept?
how long are witness statements kept for?
she was raped/buggered/beat up and then strangled untill she was nearly dead.
she somehow managed to crawl out of there and a friends mum found her laying in the street-she was battered and her clothes were ripped.
despite all this-the two male detectives went on and on and on at her for hours accusing her of making it up because she was scared of being pregnant by her black boyfriend[they was also racist]-she had never slept with her boyfriend.
they finnally let her go-and come to her house a few days later and told her mother that they had knocked on the rapists door several times but he didnt open it-so basically-that was that-they also warned the girl not to pursue it as "everyone would find out about what happened to her"!
during these "interviews"the girls mother was present but she wasnt a reliable adult person-she had severe mental health problems!
a short while after this girl run away as she was so ashamed-the police eventually picked her up-gave her a six hour grilling[without a break]then took her to a girls borstal for being a naughty little girl!
after she came out of there-well-because of all this-her life took on a string of nasty events![and more abuse]
these days she is strong but still has the anger-maybe its this anger that helps her never to give up.
after all this time-would it be possible to catch this piece of shit?
and although the detectives are retired-could someone be accountable for this injustice?there was so much proof but all they was interested in was the fact that she had a black boyfriend-shameful!
is there anything she can do?she still remembers every little detail.

This has made me feel breathless just reading it, such an appalling tale.
I'm sorry I can't answer any of your questions but I hope someone comes along who can and I hope some sort of justice is done.

sorrySadi seriusly dont want to upset anyone
apart from wanting justice-we have to tell it how it is.
some of us are seen as "hardcore"on here-and i think some are put off-
but unless we tell it as it is-others will carry on suffering!

Sparky
Justice should be done
How you go about it is up to you
dittany gives great advice and local rape crisis will support you through this.

Am ashamed

In our force we have cold case review teams and will review serious crime - no statute of limitation

Sparky, I wasn't upset in that I'd rather not have heard about it - just breathless with disgust at what was done and pity for the poor girl it was done to.
I don't actually think my feelings should be a consideration here; I almost feel I owe it to the person who suffered all this to read about it and feel some sort of empathy.

Thus is terrible. Can't believe the police would give up after getting no answer at the door! How long ago was this OP?

sparky that's a dreadful story.

Yes to contacting Rape Crisis.

Can you/her family contact the local police force and enquire about contacting a cold case team? Perhaps they could advise further on what would be feasible?

I'd echo the advice to talk to the police but, on the other hand, wouldn't like to give the person false hope. If it is truly a long, long time ago, if they weren't taken seriously at the time and if no medical examinations were done or forensic evidence or written statments taken then they could find that they put themselves through the mill all over again and the outcome is no better than previously. They may feel that's a risk worth taking, of course. They may feel that the mere action of looking into the case in more detail is cathartic in some way. But I think the chances of a prosecution (let alone a conviction) become increasingly difficult the more time goes by unless there is some compelling evidence such as DNA or similar and they should be aware of that.
