I used to watch it avidly when I was on mat leave with DD1. Then I became more addicted to MN and some of the things people pointed out about him were a turn-off. Then he said that an 8yo victim of attempted rape "probably enjoyed it" and I switched off.

Then after a year or 2 I started watching it a bit and it's OK. As far as daytime viewing goes it is the best of a bad bunch by an awful long way. I like some of his regular guests (Janet Ellis meets with my strong approval!).

But now I can't get channel 5 anyway!

I like the program. Although I didn't know about the rape comment, I am very shocked by that.

I really doubt that too. I can't believe he'd say that, he doesn't come across as that $%&£%&£ type.

There was a survey a few years back which suggested women were more inclined to blame the victim in a rape case than men were. And it translates to women tending to blame themselves if they are raped.

Just came back yes it was that case with teh 2 12 year old boys and the 8 yo girl. It was after they had been convicted of attempted rape. Like many others in the media he was taking the "it was a game of doctors and nurses nothing to worry about we shouldn't be criminalising normal childhood behaviour" line and his "she probably enjoyed it" was part of his "it was just a game" comments. He was not the only one in the media who said appalling stuff over that case, even after they were found guilty.

I remember as my jaw was left hanging open, but he said it so quickly as part of a load of other stuff and none of the panel or callers picked him up on it.
