HIGNFY

I am sure that this is not a new, clever thought, but something popped into my head early this morning, as I was emerging from a very bizarre dream where I was hosting HIGNFY as a representative of MN! Shock

Anyway, I was making this big speech about how their piss-taking of MN made it very clear that it is ok for a comedy, tv panel made up mostly, and often completely, of men to talk intelligently but also in a humourous, lighthearted way about politics and current affairs, but that they seem to not like it when a forum made up predominately of women do the same thing. I was thinking primarily of 'biscuit-gate'.

I woke up feeling really bloody annoyed at how misogynist the media MN bashing really is. It is just not seen as 'ok' for women to be thinking and talking intelligently about traditionally men's 'things', especially if they've got children. And we can't let our guard down and be lighthearted, because then we just 'prove' how featherbrained and silly we all are. But it's ok for men to do that, natch. Angry

I'm not sure.

I think forums, as a genre are seen as pretty lowbrow?

But the arguments against mumsnet usually involve some element of 'just a bunch of bored mums'.

i agree, they don't all use digitalspy or similar as material do they.

It wasn't about it being a 'forum', though, it was about it being 'mums'.

Digitalspy has no real media or political presence though does it?

wtf is HIGNFY? Confused

Agree though, was saying that about The Wright Stuff on chat only t'other day. I think is it is cos women don't usually have the chance to network (best word I can think of sorry) like this, and the old boys have always been able to. And have influence, eg the 'mumsnet election' stuff. And we're not meant to be too clever, or too dim, or too trivial, or too highbrow. And why aren't we looking after the children.

Not really on-topic, soz, but HIGNFY is one of the most sexist, misogynist programmes. Mainly because Hislop is a woman-fearing overgrown child (also not comically gifted in that format). Will never forget how he treated Paula Yates - she was ripe for a roasting on many levels, but he focussed on her sexuality and body. Pathetic man.
