Do you think Pink is a feminist?

I think she is. There's little things she does in her songs and some of the stuff she sings about indicate she is. Plus I quite like her so secretly hope she is Grin

Dittany I thought that song/video was done tongue in cheek, representing the way society values women?

See, I don't see that as women-hating at all, but criticising those who buy into simpering for men. Sounds pretty feminist to me.

I can't decide either way, but I like the messages that 'Stupid Girls' and 'F**king Perfect' carry.
I prefer to look at her as someone trying (most of the time) to encourage better things and more self esteem in women, which IMO is a good thing.
I'm not sure about 'Lady Marmalade' or 'Please don't Leave Me' though Hmm.

I thought the video for that song was quite funny though, especially her send up of Paris 'possibly the most vacuous person in the world' Hilton.

Hated Lady marmalade but I always thought that 'Please don't leave me' was (harshly) critical of women who would do anything to keep their man, just so they can have a man iyswim?

Yep painting the girlfriend as crazy was maybe a bit much but I think that her songs seem to point out to girls "why act like this for a man?"

Would far prefer my two DDs listen to pink than most of the shite that is touted as music out there.

"Calling girls stupid is sexist"
yet a song called Stupid boys would be perfectly fine? Hmm
Alrighty then.

So, real feminists should defend women even when they act like idiots? Because they are women?

I think I stand by my opinion that the song represents the way society views women

I would worry about how a girl could let herself get exploited like this.

As far as i can see it comes back to a strong sense of self. Even though Paris Hilton comes across as someone with a huge ego I don't think she has it where it really counts- valuing yourself too highly to let someone take advantage of you in such a way.

I think Lady Marmalde was a real low point for all the artists involved.

Sorry- slow typer here.
Yes, I agree about the slutty girl who will 'steal' our men given half a chance.

But as a mother of two girls I finds it very worrying how normal it has become to be seen to use your sexuality to your advantage.
I like the point that Pink was making with Stupid Girls, do you want to be the girl who's obsessed with looking good all the time or do you want to go out and play and be a child?

She may have done it clumsily but she seems to be the only one trying in a world of Twilight,HSM, Pussycat Dolls etc.

I love P!nk, and think that she does a pretty good job of getting some different viewpoints and opionions out there than the usual "Boohoo I love a man, but he left me for my mum" kind of stuff. Which I think is pretty hard to do really, as the music industry is still very male top heavy (pretty much like everything else)
