Appalling. On the other thread someone said that some of these sports peoples managers need to sort them out. It's all sickening TBH.

His comment was bad enough but has anyone read the reader's comments at the end of the article? "The little girl who cried wolf" Shock WTF?! Angry

OMG.... I assumed when I read about it that it was some complete idiot that had said it, I mean he is now of course, but I had always thought that he was a nice man.....

What a nob.

Re the comments particularly the girls crying wolf one - this is where the internet sucks because if someone said this to my face, it'd take a lot of restraint not to tear them a new one. AND because he's anonymous, how are we supposed to know how to avoid him? I try not to read the comments, I really do because they are actually upsetting irl and i'm not sure the posters ever take that into consideration. I bet he wouldn't dare say that irl.

talk about silencing, I've never seen so many "shut up"s as were printed in the comments.

Fucking hell Ricky Gervais is a cock

How unbelievable that 'his people' thought that insisting on a verbatim quote of his pathetic joke would somehow make it better

Can't stand Gervais and Carr. I think they are misogynists. Didn't know that jokes like this were being made. Shocking. It is breaking taboos and minimising rape. They started using the word 'bitch' and 'ho' in songs, and now we have come to them openly making rape jokes in the public arena.

Ricky Gervais

One person I really hate

I don't hate many people...but I hate him

I think the boxer is just stupid and ignorant

RG is not stupid and ignorant. He is just a misogynist. And not even fucking funny.

He was on Radio 5 this morning and stood by his remarks. Absolutely dreadful.

I would like to kick him right in the gonads...the smug, snaggle-toothed twat

Oh my GOD I can't believe that one of his "people" read that article and thought the important thing was that his joke was quoted slightly wrongly (obviously he never improvises, his routine must be a real thrill).

He is a tosser. It's a shame because I thought the Office was good (in a watching-it-is-a-bit-like-self-harm way, I watched it on loop after breaking up with ex-boyfriend, it sort of dulled the pain) but it's become clear what a massive arse he is and I can't even stand to look at him now.

And David Haye, for example, is a twat.

David Haye was on Chris Moyles this morning and Chris Moyles said (along the lines of) "we won't talk about the comments you made, you know, cos some stupid people got a bit upset about them, you know, those people - they just cant take a joke"

What a cock

Report
chocolatestar · 13/09/2010 11:03

I can't stand Chris Moyles either. Really don't understand how people can so completly lack compassion towards survivors of rape.

I know. If he'd said "it's going to be as one-sided as a mass airborne dragon attack on London" that would be a joke, because that doesn't happen. Gang rape happens FFS, watch the news.

Makes you wonder whether he would think being involved in a gang rape would be a mark of tough masculinity too, along the lines of this fight. Hmm

Agree chocolatestar, it makes me feel so sad and angry :(

I don't think anyone will ever really "get" what it is like to be raped, and therefore understand why all of this is so hurtful, unless they have been raped themselves. In my mind that is why all these men (not a coincidence surely) just don't get it.

Not making an excuse for them of course - just don't think there will ever be a way of getting it through to certain men because a) they will never go through it, and b) they don't seem to think that it is important or worthy enough to try to understand.

PS Can't fucking stand RG, I was thinking about writing a massive rant about him earlier, but he is not worth it!

I am bemused at the idea that nothing else can be used as an example of "one-sidedness".

Garry Richardson on R5 yesterday really pressed Hayes on what he said and how completely unacceptable it was. Hayes stood up to him and defended what he said. Richardson and the guest journalist were both utterly appalled as was Auderly (sp?) Harrison.
