How do you exercise if you can't leave the house?

By which I mean if it's just you and a toddler in bed. My dh works long hours which means getting out after bedtime is pretty much out if the question. It's often just me and ds in bed until 8ish, by then it's dinner time and bed for me (I work fulltime and I'm knackered).

I can't afford to join a gym, and would only use it maybe once a week at the most anyway.

Can anyone recommend any in house exercises/DVDs I could do. Nothing to noisy though - small house and a light sleeping toddler!

On the occasions I can get out I plan to either go for a swim or cycle/power walk. I'm not particularly overweight, but the old jeans are feeling a tad tight!

Thanks all.

I bought a cheapish cross-trainer and use it while my toddler naps. Check before you buy that it's not one of the deafening ones.

I got a bike/cross trainer too - doesn't take up loads of room.

Insanity
Any Jillian Michaels, really effective
15-Minute Yoga/Pilates books (published by DK I think) - book & DVD in one
Pinterest has tonnes of circuit workout which you can do in front of the telly
Or just write yourself a list of 10 exercises - jumping jacks, russian twists, jogging on the spot, press ups etc - 1 minute each then repeat the list 3x
Dance!

Search YouTube for the type of exercise you like, there are loads. I do this on my laptop so it's easy to move the computer to a surface you can do the moves on and still see the instructor. I find I have no excuse now, due to the variety (both in type and duration) and it's constant availability Smile

Jullian Michael's dvds are brilliant and really do deliver amazing results - all you have to do is stick at it for 20-30 minutes every day. Which really isn't much once the kids are in bed. They're not easy, but it is over quickly! I'd suggest you start with the '30 day shred' which really is targeted at entry level, but I hear 'ripped in 30' (and all the others) are also ace.

I've also got a selection of '10 minute blast' dvds (eg 'blast off belly fat') which each have 6 x 10 minute workouts, which I use either to top up 'evil' Jill, or instead of her if I'm feeling lazy or pressed for time.

I've done a number of 'celebrity' fitness DVDs. Most aren't that good, but the Nell McAndrew The Ultimate Challenge one is excellent. You don't need much space and the instructor is really good (especially if you like army style instruction!).
It has intervals, so you can stop after a section if you have less time.

Anything by Jillian Michaels. 30 day shred is a good place to start, followed by Ripped in 30.

sparkpeople.com works for some people. I like it but after several weeks of using it I get a bit rage-y and fed up with their videos and the like and have to take a break.;

I am in same situation except without the dh! Just joined a gym with a creche but it's miles away so can only go once a week and it costs a lot. I'd second 30 day shred it is only 20 mins but I find myself swearing at the TV after the first ten but make sure you stretch out properly afterwards as otherwise you will find yourself tired and aching! slim in six is good too but pricier.... Have to admit though both sets of dvd's are gathering dust now as I am too tired to use them.. The gym or pool motivates me more. Can't you even get out to a yoga class in the evening?

Honestly, someone is going to think I work for them sooner or later! Can't recommend highly enough.
