Shall we spend the summer holidays losing a stone?

ReigningQueen · 14/07/2014 19:28

That's my aim.
The summer holidays should make it easier for me to lose weight as we spend so much time out and about.

Here are my ideas :-

Maximum 1400 cals a day although I'll try to stick to 1200 most days.

Switch to warburton slims instead of bread and one allowed a day. This will be mostly used for my sandwich for lunch. Easy for picnics too.

Have fruit for snacks and 1 treat a day

Treats are either an ice lolly if we're out or a small piece of home made cake or biscuits or popcorn if we're having a movie night. I'll bake with the kids as an activity.

Lots of salad and veg. Luckily I love salads.

30 minutes minimum of activity a day. Exercise dvd, walking, playing with the kids outside. Wii Just Dance (from youtube), pillow fight, disco if the weather is rubbish

That sounds pretty doable. Anyone else? :)

Thank you Queen Smile I am rejoining ww on Monday. Alongside that I am planning to walk the dog everyday and swim. I think I will also pull out some old exercise dvds. I will post my starting weight after weigh in - I am dreading facing up to how much weight I have gained Sad Have you started your new regime?x

MercuryRising · 19/07/2014 15:46

Sorry about the x - I am posting on my phone and was in text mode Blush

I have in a way. I've started to be more active. I like to be outdoors but this heat is making it difficult. I'm going to wait til this evening then go for a bike ride with the kids and play in the garden with them.

As for food, I had lunch and dinner out yesterday so I've tried to cut back today. Its helpful that its too hot to eat so all I've had today is an apple, cherry tomatoes, 1 olive, some grapes and almost 2 litres of sparkling water. I've been good with food the rest of the week too.

Hi ladies
Can I join too? I'd love to lose a stone over the holidays, I need to lose two altogether. I keep trying but then get tempted or bored and binge. But, the last three days now I've been very focused. I've started slimfast as I'll be more motivated once I've started seeing the weight come off. I'm having 3 coffees, 2 slimfast and a very large salad each day. I'm hoping to keep it up for a couple of weeks and by then I'm hopeful my appetite and stomach will be shrunk plus I'll be motivated by the weight lost already. I'm also planning to start running (not that I'll look much like a runner, more like a sweaty dying dog) and I may also join the gym, if I can afford it. Although I may have to wait til after the holidays for that for childcare reasons.
I'm planning to weigh myself once a week.

Finola1step · 19/07/2014 21:31

Can I join in too??

Have lost about 5lbs in the past month or so. Really want to step it up over the holidays. Would be useful to have to check in.

5madthings · 19/07/2014 21:35

Marking place, I have also lost about 5lb I the last few weeks having started running and swimming again.

It's going to be harder to go swimming during the holidays but I can run in the evening when Kids in bed or do an exercise dvd.
I want to lose s stone by Sept when we have a family gathering.

ReigningQueen · 19/07/2014 21:37

Hi jerin.
I also need to lose 2 stone but I thought I'd aim for 1 stone in the next 6 weeks. I'll look miles better even if I lose just the one!
Good luck with slim fast. I'm sure it will work if you stick to it. All diets do. It's just that sticking to it is difficult!
I'm picturing myself bumping into all the school mums that I won't have seen all summer saying 'wow! You've lost weight!'. It might sound really sad but it's keeping me motivated :)

Hi finola and 5madthings :)

I don't know if I'll even get time to fit in some 'proper' exercise so I've decided to just play with the kids more.
This evening, we played a game where you try to hit someone with a ball whilst running around like mad things. I worked up a proper sweat and was breathless and tired by the end of it. We laughed so much.
Surely that would count as excercise?

Any room for a not so little one? I've been to the gym tonight and I'm feeling determined Grin

jerin · 19/07/2014 21:53

Oh lovely, we can motivate each other. Yes reigningqueen that would be great to get comments like that come September! I'd also like to have the satisfaction of chucking away my current fat work skirt and claiming my thin skirt as my fat one! IYSWIM. I really want to tone up, I have the biggest loser DVDs and shred but never have the lounge to myself. I like the sound of your running around game too, my children would be well up for that, they're only little. In fact I think they were playing that earlier whilst I was cooking!
I could run in the evenings, just don't want anyone to see me and it's not dark til quite late.

positively9something · 20/07/2014 00:11

Hi can I join too Grin I need to loose 1 stone 9 lbs really but 1 stone would make me much more comfortable.

I am going to try to do exercise 5 days per week and try to eat mostly whole foods, I want to avoid dieting as I know it makes me binge eat Hmm And makes me feel rubbish when I fail.

I have also been looking into lifting heavy for women, but I havnt done this before so I will probably start with the gym or classes 4 days per well plus one pole class which is good exercise but I love it so much it's more like fun. Wink

LaChatte · 20/07/2014 17:26

Sign me up, I've got almost three stone to lose over the next year, so one stone this summer sounds like a good start.

Current weight: 75kgs (11.8 stone or 165lbs)
Goal for the 31st of August: 69kgs (10.8 stone or 152lbs)

Using MFP, but taking it with a pinch of salt as their food info seems to pretty hit and miss! Also trying to walk the dog more often/for longer, having more energetic sex Grin and doing more housework Hmm

5madthings · 20/07/2014 20:36

Well I had an ice cream today but I also went on a walk, played on the beach and in the sea with the madthings and then went for a 5km run before dinner and then did a bunch of stretches, toning exercises etc.

ReigningQueen · 20/07/2014 21:54

Well done 5madthings.
We went out for the day. I had a fairly healthy picnic but ended up having oven chips for dinner. We did do loads of walking though.

I'll cut back again tomorrow. It helps to think of averaging out calories over a couple of days to make sure that there is weight loss.

OP posts:
jerin · 20/07/2014 22:07

I'm impressed 5madthings!

I've been good food wise again today. I do need to get out of the habit of having a slimfast in the evening but I'm always hungry and it's the time when I do most bingeing. Hoping I'll get the house to myself to start some sort of exercising this week. Although I did play dodge ball in the garden with the children earlier.

dementedma · 20/07/2014 22:11

Me too. Am low carbing and have lost about 4lbs in the last two weeks. Only an estimate as I don't really do weighinf but clothes are looser and I'm back into my cropped trousers which have been in the fat drawer for the last two years.

jerin · 20/07/2014 22:37

Well done dementedma- that's fab. I feel less bloated and feel like I've had slightly more energy dispute only having around 700 calories today. Just shows how bad my diet was before....

Donthackmenow · 20/07/2014 22:40

Can I join? I have been trying to lose the same 2st since Christmas and have got nowhere. I am 11st 5lb (and 5ft 4) and would love to be 9st, currently I would settle for a weight starting with a 10.
I'm not sure how I am going to do it as I have zero will power- I like the idea of clean eating and giving up sugar exercise is difficult to fit into my day but I will strive to do a DVD every day - my son still doesn't sleep through So sometimes i am just too tired!

jerin · 20/07/2014 22:58

The more the merrier- welcome donthackmenow.

Let's hope we can inspire and motivate each other....

Hi donthackmenow. I have a toddler who doesn't sleep well either so I'm with you on the sleepless nights making you tired and making it more difficult to diet. On those days, I've recently learnt to eat food that will give me slow release energy instead of quick sugar fixes. Things like porridge with cinnamon and tinned fruit, bananas, oatcakes with hummus and carrot sticks, ryvita with low fat cream cheese. I can really feel the difference in my mood and motivation.

We've got about 6 weeks now til the summer holidays are over. That is normally enough on most diets to lose a stone so there's no reason why we can't.

Even if you don't diet and just cut out the crap and sort out portion sizes, you'll still do well so good luck everyone :)

Motivational tip - If you've got an item of clothing the next size down that you want to get into, take it out and try it on. Leave it hanging where you'll see it every day and try it on every other day or so til you can jump with joy when it fits :)

Yay! ReigningQueen I like that idea! I'm heading into the lift for my skinny summer trousers! And I've promised myself some jeans in September too. Current the seams have all busy on mine or I can't squeeze into them!

I'm with you on lack of sleep being the worst. My trio are ok now but when they were all under 2 at the same time it was hell! These light evenings they just won't go to sleep, I have 2 that will happily read but one that's loopy- all in the one room!

Have a good day everyone

LaChatte · 21/07/2014 11:46

Oh god, a food stock order I made before I decided to diet, has just arrived help me be strong!
