Is there a support group on here for giving up Diet Coke/other diet drinks?

I have type 2 diabetes and I really find that it's much easier to control my blood sugar levels if I don't have artificial sweeteners. If I have a Diet Coke or two around lunchtime (which I do almost everyday) then I'm craving carbs in the late evening.

So, I'm giving it up! But, dear Lord, I want it, I crave it, I would walk over my DC for just one mouthful. I'm only on day 2. Tell me to stay strong.

Has anyone else give it up? How long did it take for you to get over the cravings? I'm still having proper coffee with breakfast, so I do get some caffeine, but Diet Coke seems to have some other addictive quality as well as caffeine because I still want it.

sparkling water makes a good substitute, especially if you occasionally add a drop of apple juice.

Actually, I changed to Diet Coke from Pepsi Max because I found it hard to stop myself drinking loads of Pepsi Max if I had it in the house.

I have been having coconut water diluted with lots of water and have been sipping slowly all day. I finished that off yesterday so today is orange and lime juice again with ice and water. I'm finding that if I don't let myself get thirsty it helps. The hardest is when I come in from shopping or activity and I'm dying for a drink. That's when I just want to pop a can.

I wonder if the chemicals in these drinks are addictive?

We love lime cordial and sparkling water in iut house, it's incredibly refreshing.

I bought a soda stream. I only use it for fizzy water, but having a litre of cold fizzy water in the fridge works a treat.

I have an addiction to pepsi max Blush
I'm really trying to cut down on it and have gone from 4-5 cans per day to 1-2, the only other thing I drink is diluted juice, I don't like tea/coffee

I still haven't had any Diet Coke, which I'm pretty pleased about. I still WANT it though. I'm finding it hard to remember to drink enough fluids now as water just isn't interesting enough and I'm not keen on squashes etc. I'm still have very diluted coconut water sometimes, now at about 1 part coconut to 4 parts tap water. It just has that little bit of taste that keeps me drinking it, and it doesn't seem to churn in my stomach in the way that plain water does.

How is everyone else doing?

I was a massive coke zero addict (2 or more litres a day Blush). I went cold turkey on it and switched to plain water. It was really hard at first and it felt like nothing other than fizzy pop would quench my thirst. I'm converted now though and when I do have an a coke zero it tastes a bit too sweet.
Very addictive stuff though, good luck everyone!
