Today is a big day for me, a turning point! I've always been 'big' however have just been getting bigger and bigger. I want to lose 6 stone- starting from today.

Anyone else in the same boat who would like to swap inspiration and tips? Today I've planned to eat healthily and go for a nice long walk Grin

I've lost almost a stone of the 4 st I want to lose. I'm doing slimming world and finding it really easy to stick to. There are quite a few women at my group who have a lot to lose, my mum is also doing it and has lost 2 and a half stone so far out of the 6st she's aiming for.

Brilliant- well done both of you!

I've done all the slimming groups in the past, slimming world, weight watchers, rosemary Connelly etc. I always start off really well, but then it always seems to go a bit pear shaped.

I have 4.5 stone to lose. I have lost weight before so I know I can do it. I also know that it gets easier after the first stone when clothes start to fit a bit better. I have to do something or my health is going to suffer - well, it already is if am honest.

I have been told that I have a fatty liver. My mum is a type 2 diabetic, I tested my own blood sugar over the weekend and it's just outside the normal range. So, that is like a warning. If I don't act soon, I will end up with the same health problems. Sad

Me, also just starting off today. I have about 8 stone to lose Blush. Family history of heart disease and diabetes. I want to see my kids grow up and be able to walk out of my front door with my head high. I can't do that now.

I've done the lot too. For me the hardest part is starting. After the first couple of weeks I'm ok.

Well done to those who have lost :) and good luck to everyone on the road :)

I've lost 1 stone still got about 6 to go. I've been doing slimming world and going to the gym. Ideally I'd like as much off by 1st jan as that's when we're going on holiday and I don't want to feel embarrassed in swim wear! But the main reason I'm doing it is I have PCOS and would like to go some way to cure it and go on to have a baby.

Ok well we have each other for support now so lets see it through! Im determined this time. My youngest is 1 next week- when i was 9 months pregnant with her i weighed 15st 8 - i weighed yesterday and im now 16st 12. Im constantly out of breath and just dont feel attractive anymore and i know its not good for my health.

I weigh in the machine in Boots - its telling me my ideal weight is between 8st1 and 10st 13. If i wanted to get to 8st 1 I would need to lose over half my bodyweight- scary thought. Im ashamed I let myself get like this.

Isaac- well done on your first stone! Thats an achievement in itself.
Ive been thinking about going to the gym but i really am embarrassed- what if i go in and its all fit people and i look like the big sweaty fatty? Blush

Hello everyone [waves enthusiastically] room for another one?
Ideally I'd like to lose 5 stone. I get married August next year and would love to look and feel beautiful on my big day. I just lack the motivation to get started so I'm hoping I might find a virtual kick up the bum on here!
I've got the Paul McKenna gastric band cd and have started listening to that when I can. I don't eat on a night anymore so hopefully that small change might start to make a little difference. I lost my job 3 months ago and have started to feel a bit lazy and can't be arsed Blush We've got a Wii so might have to start on the Wii Fit and work up to some real life proper exercise Grin

Hello :) Wii fit is a good idea. I'll have to dig ours out. A friend of my dad lost shedloads by using the Wii Fit. He didn't change his eating at all, just did lots of work outs on it, then progressed to running when his fitness improved. He lost about 4 stone. Just think what we could do with more movement and less better eating!

Thanks Henrietta :)

I thought like that at first but I'm by no means the biggest there (I'm now 16st 11, was 17st 11, so we're more or less the same weight) There are people there of all shapes, sizes and ages. Everyone is sweaty too so it feels ok. No one pays any attention, they're far too busy exercising.

Before I joined the gym I used to go power walking for 40 minutes every morning before anyone else was about and do the 30 day shred then built up to the gym.

Instead of looking at the whole picture, take it in 1/2 stones or full stones. It doesn't seem that big of a thing then.

I'm off to the gym in a bit as its weigh in day tomorrow. As they say on The Biggest Loser- last chance workout! Grin

Yes.
Just been to gp. Had bp checked and its elevated.
And I weigh 18.8
I have family history of hypertension. I've known weight has been creeping up but I've ignored it.
I need to do something now. I've had 2 big ops in the last year which hasn't helped.
So i'm checking BP every day for 2 weeks and then go back.
I started Slimming World on Sunday, so hopefully in 2 weeks I'll have lost half a stone.
(If i do it properly, that should be managable then hopefully continue at about 2lbs a week.)

I want to lose some weight and so does my husband so we are going to get a wii fit and do it every other night

I am also going to the gym a lot, though I am struggling with a really bad bout of depression right now so haven't been for a wee while.

I was 20 stone after the birth of my son, I'm now 16 stone. Losing 5 would be amazing, well losing 6 would be amazing but anything that makes me feel more comfortable

I weighed this morning at 14 stone exactly. I would like to be 9 stone 7 but anything under 10 would be brilliant. Am giving myself a year. I would love to be able to wear nice summer clothes next year instead of trying to hide away and dreading the nice weather.

Hello can I join you? I have about 5st to lose. I've been using My Fitness Pal for about a month to get a handle on what I'm eating and I've lost about 4lb just by cutting out snacks. .My problem is with portion size, particularly with carby meals. I just love bread and pasta.

I'm back working full time from September which should help as I eatmuch better when I'm at work than I do at home. I'm struggling with time to exercise though - when do you all find time? :)

BoysWillGrow · 07/08/2013 11:27

ooh i'd like to join too, i'd like to lose 2.7 stone to get back to my pre Dc's weight,
I'm going to start with getting my Wii Fit out too and try to do 30mins a day doing the exercises that really get me out of breath. I used to do it everyday up until getting pregnant with dc2 and morning sickness kicking in.
Anyone heard of the tablets you can take that helps you lose 1/2lb for every lb you lose yourself. I'm sure I've heard of something that does that, though i could be imagining it Confused any experience of them, do they actually help? are they safe? any side effects?

Can I squeeze in too?
1 year on from ds's birth and I'm bigger than I was just before he was born and feeling quite miserable Sad
I don't weigh myself, just go on my clothes and they are nearly ALL too tight!
Any of you comfort eaters? How do you stop?
Any one thinking of trying 5:2?

Report
EnglishGirlApproximately · 07/08/2013 11:30

I've tried 5:2 but I couldn't get on with it. I didn't lose anything in a month and found the fasting days really hard. I think I'm going to have to low carb

I have a wii fit too but haven't used it in ages. Think I'll get it back out.

Also, as well as losing a stone, I have gone from size 20 on bottom to 18 (plus a belt as they're getting a bit baggy) and from a 18/20 on top to 16. I've not been a size 16 for years :)

I like Wii Fit cos it doesn't really feel like exercise Grin I did half an hour on boxing the other day, was knackered. Might help with the bingo wings tho if I can keep it up!

Good luck, Henrietta and others. I started this time last year with about 6 stone to lose ideally - though I actually decided I'd be satisfied with losing 5. I've now lost very close to the whole 6 and going strong, but as you can see I've taken it slow and steady. I'm not finding it a struggle any more, though it certainly was at first. Here is what has been working for me, though of course everyone is different.

  1. Walking. I've always liked walking, and knew I had to do something about my weight (lifelong problem) when I realised that the most gentle of hills was too much for me, and even level walks were becoming a struggle. So I added some walking to my daily commute (initially 20 mins each way, now nearer to an hour each way including a steep hill), and I'm lucky enough to work in a location where if I can take a full hour for lunch there are some hilly and beautiful walks I can do. I don't know how much weight if any I've lost through walking, possibly very little, but it's been the psychological life-saver for me. The time out in the fresh air makes me feel good about myself - and of course every hour spent walking is an hour less to sit on the sofa and eat (or wish I was eating) cakes! I also promised myself a really nice and expensive walking holiday for earlier this summer, which I duly took and enjoyed. Shelling out the cash for it in the spring was good for motivation, as it was a lot of money and I knew I wouldn't enjoy the holiday if I couldn't get up those hills.

  2. Sorry, low-carb and 2:5 enthusiasts, but those just didn't do it for me. I can't give up carbs, and can't manage on 500 calories on fast days. Ever since my teens I've had a difficult relationship with food, and I needed to find a way to feel OK about my weird eating patterns. I am addictive around food and probably always will be. So here's what I do. About 4 days a week I aim for 1000-1200 calories, making sure it's balanced and healthy with no snacks. One or perhaps two days a week I eat basically similarly to those other 4 but with a couple of small bars of chocolate or one family one thrown in (I can't eat just one small bar of chocolate). So around 1500-1800 calories on those days. And around one day a week I have an addict day when I eat exactly what I want. Yes, if I want to buy a family-sized cake and eat it all, that's what I do. Although as time has gone on, I've done it less and less! But the addict in me can somehow cope much better with the lighter days if I know I'm going to do some serious indulgence not far down the line. The days aren't set in stone, it depends what else is going on in my life. So if I have an indulgence weekend, I try to earn it in advance with more lighter days, or pay it back afterwards. I think the calorie level on lighter days was higher when I first started, though I'm having trouble remembering. On that calorie count, and now at 9 and a half stone, I'm only losing weight very slowly but I don't mind that, and if I plateau where I am I'll be more than happy.

  3. Being nice to myself, and not worrying too much if what should be a lighter day turns into a snack one or even an indulgence one. What's always sabotaged me in the past is once I've blown the diet one day, I've thought 'what the heck' and haven't been able to get back on the wagon. Now I've trained myself to think, 'OK, that was yesterday, doesn't matter, no damage done, today's a different day'.

  4. Interim targets. 6 stone is a scary amount, and next year is a long way away. I went for '3 stone by Xmas' and then broke that down by months. And I gave myself (non-food!) treats each time I reached a target.

I tried the gym early on in the process and hated it. OK, so the people there probably weren't staring at me and judging me, but I couldn't convince myself of that! If you're worried about the gym, perhaps giving walking a go might work in the short term until you feel confident enough to give the gym a go? That's what I thought I was doing, then realised that the walking worked for me just fine and I didn't need the gym in any case.

Anyway, very good luck to you. You sound younger than me (my DDs have flown the nest) and I wish I'd done this quite a lot earlier, but the time for whatever reason wasn't right for me. It's do-able! From where I am now I think I can keep this up long term... hope it turns out that way.

Marking my place!

It is my birthday in Tuesday so I plan to start on Wednesday.

WRT gym in this nice weather why not just do lots of power walking/build up to jogging and make the most if being outdoors and bulls up to it for when the weather isn't so great.

I snack loads and have heavy carb meals, so I am aware if where the issues are. I am probably going to do WW. I list three stone with it before. I am about 12.9 right now.

I have a new job, uni is going well and I would like to lose as close to a stone as possible before we start back in Ictober

Good luck everyone..

Ooh yes all pile in and we can start our own club! It's great that we will have each other for support and that we are all in the same boat, having stones to lose rather than pounds! I'm currently a size 20, I long for the day I can buy a size 16!!

Wii fit is an excellent idea- I'm a sahm so that's definitely something I can do during the day when I have the kids running around! I have it upstairs in the attic somewhere- that will be hunted out tonight!!

I know people who have lost alot of weight using the 5:2 but I really don't think I could do it- I like food too much! I'm just going to try cutting out crap and really upping the exercise, and see how it goes from there.

When's everyone's weigh in days? Mine will be a Wednesday!
