I am craving sugar/crap carbs SO MUCH

So, for health reasons I have decided I need to change my diet as I eat far too much refined sugar and crap, basically. I am also cutting out dairy. I am so addicted to sugar that I feel like I need refined sugar and/or bad carbs every single day. Today is the first day of the new regime and I am already craving sugar/carbs so much... there are 3 corner shops within easy reach but I am concentrating my will power on not going near them!

Has anyone done similar? How long will it take for the craving to go?? I am worried I may be a sugar junkie...

Haven't managed to do this but I need to.....

I've lost 30 lbs through 5:2 but I still pig out on chocolate and crisp given the chance - mainly when I get bored and when at work if its available....

I've been reading up on clean eating and think the best thing is to try gradually to make small changes that fit for the whole family so I can get rid of temptation

It's not going to be easy as I have a 14 yo DS and 12 yo dd who both love chocolate, sweets and cake but I am already making stealth changes.... Stevia instead of sugar, switching to organic and whole meal flours, pastas etc and hiding more veg in bolognaise

I am also cutting back on alcohol and the next thing to reduce is diet coke - more filtered water, green tea etc.....

I think it's going to be a long process but I do intend to make permanent changes for the better ....

I already drink mostly water so luckily I don't have to make that switch... 48 hours in and I'm feeling headachey and dizzy! I have been having smoothies and honey on toast as substitutes but I just want some Jaffa cakes...

Depends on what you are substituting your sugary/carby stuff with. I was under eating and would get cravings for something sweet....upped my protein level by a lot and now no cravings at all.

Whereas before I would have maybe a salad for lunch now I am having something more substantial like scrambed egg (made with almond milk) with ham and beans, something like that......sees me right through till dinner time without making me want to eat the table :)

I've been cutting BACK on sugar and 'crap carbs'. What works for me is: only eat bread or pasta or rice at one meal per day, and in a relatively small quantity. Very small sweet treat at lunch (like maybe two Jaffa cakes) and a few squares of dark choc in the evening. Absolutely no sugary or carby snacks in between meals, though I do snack on other stuff.

This represents a hell of a lot less crap than I was eating before, and yet I haven't had any cravings nor do I feel like I am missing sugar/carbs in any way. Also at special occasions like weddings, dinner parties etc I don't really worry about what I eat.

I gave up chocolate for lent, after about a week, i didn't even have it in my mind! I used to love the vending machines at work, but walked past them and forgot after a week!

Soon as lent was over, I ate about 5 eggs and haven't been able to get back on the wagon since :(
