Paying to sample the hotel's food options? AIBU?

Hi

We've booked a local hotel for our wedding evening reception, where they'll be serving canapes on arrival (6.30pm) and an evening buffet (8.45pm).

They have given us a list of options for the finger buffet, and are working on some canape ideas. I have emailed our co-ordinator asking if we could please sample the food before deciding which ones to choose, and she has come back to say "I hope you understand there will be a charge for this"

Am I being unreasonable to think that as we'll be paying thousands of pounds, not to mention the money they'll make on the bar during the night, they could let us sample a few nibbles for free?! Or is this standard?

Ridiculous. We got married a year ago and we had a free tasting meal. It was standard.

YANBU, a free taster should be standard.

Agreed, a tasting should always be included!

We got married last year and our taster meal was included in the price.
We had a sit down meal so we picked two options for each course from their option list. We then went for dinner one night and had the three course meal with one serving of each option. We shared each one so that we both tasted everything. They even included glasses of the wine and champagne we had chosen to make sure we were happy with them.
