Some very interesting looking storms on the radar north of coalville. Perhaps some large damaging hail.

Very worth looking at TORRO's facebook page for an analysis and a map.

Reports very welcome.

It's been funny old weather. We had a surprise thunderstorm up here in the Northeast, last night. We were only forecast a bit of rain.

bbc and met office are not so good at issuing storm forecasts, perhaps cos of issues like saturday which shows how tricky it is to really predict them. I think they need to do more probability style forcasting.

TORRO fb page for those in the region.

Im in NE England, so far today the weather has been beautiful, though it is getting a little windy at the moment, but nothing alarming.

Are storks predicted for the SE? because it's very muggy down here

Report
BuzzardBird · 09/06/2014 13:07

We had a humdinger of a storm earlier, high winds thunder and lightening. Was as black as night. North Worcs.

Derbyshire/Notts border - just had downpour of monsoon proportions, thunder, lightening and hailstones, now the sun is trying to come out. The yard looked like a swimming pool.

storks? we need a very strong easterly to bring those in Grin

lilac, its possible that some may come up from France. certainly no guarantees though!

buzzard, if you hear any reports of damage I'd be very grateful if you can pass them on, its useful to plot what these storms do as they evolve.

LadySybil - don't know exactly where you are in relation to me, but it's clouded over a bit here, now and we had a brief shower around 9am. Last time I checked, it was forecast to start raining round about school chucking out time. I shall have to dress in full waterproofs, which will guarantee that the sun will come back out and melt me.

South yorks - it's been rumbling with thunder almost constantly for about half an hour, and it's really humid.

Must be the one we had at 12 Dorothy. Appeared out of nowhere

I can see those storms maddog. The ones in question are heading to your area I think. One currently heading NNE and at the moment the others are heading northerly but its possible that if storm number 4 develops as though it looks like it may, it will also head NNE

Nothing here in Leicester but it's 'orribly muggy and we've just had a thundery shower. There are dark clouds if I look northwards (Loughborough/Coalville way) ~ possibly the edge of the Dorothy's storm that hit her earlier?

Report
OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/06/2014 13:20

Sounds probable Gloria.

Looks like they're having a proper storm over Mansfield/Chesterfield way at the moment.

Hailstones - sort of regulation size I would have said - sorry, would have taken notes if I had known there would be questions! - they melted almost instantly.

Report
DorothyGherkins · 09/06/2014 13:54

We have beautiful sunshine now, and the patio is bone dry after that deluge.

Report
OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/06/2014 13:55

Grin at regulation size. You would have had more to say if they werent :)

the storms still look very potent.

Started off lovely here in West Yorks. Now it's pissing down and has been for a couple of hours.

Report
MirandaWest · 09/06/2014 13:58

Had thunderstorm about 45 min ago just east of York. Wasn't particularly dramatic but relieved a bit of the humidity.

Looks like a region not far from Gainsborough to close to scunthorpe is at risk from the worst of the storms at present.
