It's clear in Edinburgh, but am too tired to jump in the car and find proper darkness for the possibility of a wee aurora. I want a big X class, Earth heading flare ( well not so huge it's fucks up the infrastructure....). Really can't be bothered with a wee hint of green on the horizon......Hadn't realised I was so grumpy tonight.Blush
Mind you, it's getting near the Equinox which is traditionally better for Aurora sightings.
It's been 11 years since I last saw a good show, come on the Sun!

Thanks for the heads up, are they only in Scotland?

I'm Jealous Perihelion!
Stuck on the outskirts of Leeds with DS in bed so I can't even drive north to get out from the light pollution as DH is out.

Perihelion it was an X4.9 flare - but not Earth directed. This is just a glancing blow!

ITV News are reporting observations from as far south as Essex.

Oooooh, I might have a peek then in a mo.

Some cloud in the way now, NE direction. Am right near the Forth, so not much streetlighting past my house. Amber alert on Aurorawatch now.
Remember to check the whole sky. Aurora can sometimes be overhead, not always North.
Think the last good show I saw was an X30, which came a day or so after another huge flare. The Aurorawatch graph for that event had red columns off the scale all over the place.

No longer grumpy Grin
Thankyou weather fairy for being clear and no Moon Wink

I think that I have your grumps now perihelion - I have no chance of seeing them with all the lights round here.

My FB is full of my North East Scotland and Moray coast friends all excited because of the Northern Lights Tonight.

Really jealous to not be there to see them.

I'm jealous as well. No sight of them here in South Yorkshire as there is too much light pollution.

We should have been in Northumberland this week where we might have seen it, but DD has been poorly so we stayed at home Sad

Sighting from about 5 miles away - but I couldn't see it because of street lights...

We see them here in Northern Canada quite a lot. I posted on another thread that the locals are quite blasé about them. Not looking good here tonight (7 hours behind). It's -32 with the wind chill and we have extensive cloud cover. We did get quite a good display last week though.

Donki, DD has been warned that she may be woken randomly and chuked in the car, for an aurora adventure Grin
