Weather warnings part 3 - February storms.

Really hoped we wouldnt need another thread so soon.

Tomorrow we have one dangerous storm with winds potentially 90mph off welsh coasts, 80mph inland and hitting Ireland very hard too.

met office warnings for heavy rain (exactly where we dont need it but also hitting western scotland), snow, perhaps even down to lower ground at times over night even pretty far south and storm force winds. Also widespread gales across England.

Then friday night into Saturday we have another potentially damaging low. The models have really struggled with this one and it needs a careful eye keeping on it.

Because the winds look so bad tomorrow for some (enough in the amber areas for me to suggest that you consider whether your journey is essential), I'll be logging on around 7:15am to update. My biggest concern is western Wales in the afternoon. However the track may change as the storm develops so the amber warning area may shift. It is possible that the met office may issue some red warnings close to the morning.

Looking further on, although storms may track to their more usual position (north of scotland) as the month goes on, unfortunately the rain looks set to continue, with little in the way of respite.

Thanks, BadKitten.

We have got off so lightly in East Anglia - have been incredibly lucky so far. It's still wet, windy and grim but these days that's the equivalent to Mediterranean sun.

Does anyone know of a good site which lists all travel disruption?

Both rail (as more lines suspended or being closely watched) and road (keep out areas, and closures such as M2 this evening).

(Kitten - MNHQ switched a couple of weeks ago to splitting long threads in two at the 500th message, because that makes it easier for people reading threads on smaller screens.)

Someone on the last thread mentioned how the air felt like snow was coming. It seemed the same to me when I was out around 7 pm. And there was almost a halo around the moon - cirrus cloud?

I really, really hope that temperatures don't get too low, and snow is very light.

AuntieStella - I don't know of a site that lists all travel disruptions, but you could start with searching for your County Police Twitter feed. Currently Hants Police are posting about local disruptions, etc, and re-tweeting relevant tweets, so I've bookmarked other Twitter accounts.

A couple of hours ago, HantsPolice retweeted a tweet from HantsConnect that "Road temps forecast to drop to zero about midnight in north Hants so we are salting priority one roads from 9 pm".

Wilbury, life would be a little more relaxed if the weather wasn't quite so active!

Weirdness abounds atm, Kitten. Bookmarks disappeared and then reappeared a bit earlier.

I've been looking at the MetOffice/public/weather/observations map several times today, wanting to see what the temperatures are both near to me and further away, but little is showing up. I should think that a lot of relevant websites are getting a bit of hammering today, as people want/need to know what's going on.

Thank heavens DD is home from Aberystwyth for a few days, looks like they will get another pasting. We've been very lucky in Swansea, damage-wise.

Well round one of OYBBK keeps us safe done, just been in contact with all the other coaches in our football group and mentioned the wind speeds, being on astro turf lit only by floodlights that don't like the wind and surrounded by trees and it looks like we will be staying inside at 6pm instead of trying not to let 6 year old footballers fly off into the skies. Grin Thank you.

I think tomorrow is going to be interesting here in Rossendale, Lancashire. It sounds like we'll get some snow, and strong winds/gales in the afternoon. I'll stock up on supplies gin in the morning and get home from school as quickly as I can!
