Is your child's school closed?

My daughter's comprehensive had announced before 7am that it was closed despite a very slight sprinkling on the ground overnight and nothing on the roads.

The local primary schools are open though which means I have to go into work later - what fun - luckily I can do it on foot. We now have a steady fall of snow in Gloucestershire.

Madmog - I'm also in Gloucestershire - DD1 Secondary shut, DD2 Primary open... I have to go in at lunchtime.....

Thing that gets me is they will text later for us to go pick them up early - causing maximum disruption - instead of just closing like lots of other schools..

They were closed on Wednesday due to treacherous conditions. Yesterday they opened but a lot didn't make it in. Today they were going to open until midday so that staff and students could get home before we get more snow but it's awful and the head's been in touch to say they're closing. Main roads are closed, thick ice, still got a good 6 inches of snow and lots more forecast. Nearly 300 local schools closed and counting.

We're just yellow. I'm off to London on the train tomorrow, hopefully!!

Everywheres open in York. There's a little snow left from Monday and supposedly some more will come today but I'm not convinced.

Our infant school is closed. It was open yesterday and closed on Wednesday. I think we might be in the same area, ShowofHands. Norfolk?

Third day of closures here in Norfolk. They'll have forgotten all their fancy book learnin' by the time they go back.

Also in glos our school is closed although snow not too bad as yet. I think it's more about the staff wanting a lie in not being able to get in from rural areas.
So far loving it. Crumpets coffee and pjs!
Only cloud on the horizon is that dd2 will expect sledging brrrrrt

We're in S Worcestershire, and ds's school is open, but a home clothes day so they can be out more, and the website says not to take risks getting in, but they'll be open all day

Yes all 4 at home (SOB), Norfolk again. No snow whatsoever falling from sky but I guess they are taking precautions against expected falls this afternoon. Luckily cleaner comes today so I can get OUT for a little while to supermarket. I want to be applying for jobs but I cannot concentrate with a 4yo constantly chattering in my ear, sigh.

Those of you in Norfolk: have you subscribed to the service to be texted about schools closure? DS has decided he can reliably find out about closures from what his mates are saying on FB (since all the other sources were overwhelmed today).

I was balking at paying 10p per text (skinflint) and risking my number in yet another database that would attract spam texts.

No. We're in Rutland, we had quite a bit of snow overnight on Sunday/early hours of Monday. Then we had more during the day in Monday, it was level with the kerbs. It is still laying in the lanes, on pavements and side roads.

We have temperatures down to -7degrees this week and dense fog. DS2 is Yr11, and DS1 went through the same school, I've only known them to have 2.5 snow days! The HT never closes it.

I subscribed for emails, which are free. We've had texts from school too.

Yes, but we have had 6 inches so far this morning!

The school texts us or emails. Or the kids listen to Radio Norfolk and cheer when their school is read out.

No, but we have been told if it does snow lots then they will be closing at 1.30pm.

Yes, I'm in Norfolk.

We get parentmail emails, texts from the head and the Friends of the School keep the FB page updated. The text service seemed a bit unnecessary tbh.

They gave us a choice and are reviewing at 10 anyway but it's coming down thick and fast here. We brought them home again, we can have fun in the snow and do some work without worrying about getting out at 3.15 to collect them.

Nope. Apparantly my DSs prep school never closes.

I'm only a mile away so can easily pick him up but if I lived further away I wouldnt want to be driving.

We got one of those bt messages at 7.45.Eldest dd was being given a lift to that station by dh.Too late for the message but 2 minutes later dd charges back saying they had skidded down the hill and dh was very frightened. One car skidded all the way down in reverse and crashed into a lamppost[luckily not over the steep drop the other side. The message didn't say which school was closed. We assumed it was eldest dd's school so she phoned up the next person she was meant to inform only to find out it was the youngest dc's local primary school. She then had to phone them up and say sorry -wrong school.I've had to phone up dd's school to say we can't make it in today[not through lack of trying].Absolute bloody chaos.
