Morning OYBBK, what's it looking like for SW Leicestershire... any snow? Weather.co.uk seems to say not, but who cares what they think when there's an oybbk about. lol :o

Theres a nice train of snow showers heading to you DDD, but they might be a little hit and miss at least to start.
Some moving into northern wales and western Scotland too.

Thursday: Bit of rain perhaps into the SW or Wales .

Friday: Well, starting off wet in the far SW in the early hours and I think in cornwall it will remain wet at least for a while and it will struggle also along sw coasts. Elsewhere snow moving in pretty quickly though not reaching the SE until the early afternoon. ( I think those snow lovers in southern hampshire are going to have a pleasant surprise :) ) A substantial covering for some, a decent covering for many.

Saturday: snow continuing for many into the morning and indeed for those in Bedfordshire and further north and east it may well continue for the rest of the day.

Sunday: (confidence beginning to get low) snow finally fizzles out in yorkshire and the NE. Until.....another weather front moves in later in the day or perhaps not until the night. I wont start trying to forecast the effect of this weather front until the timing is pinned down better - perhaps this evening as it may well make all the difference....

Heavy frost here, haven't started the car up yet but reckon its a good -6 brrr not looking forward to the back road drive to nursery.

BBC and met office are saying snow from Friday lunchtime to Saturday lunchtime for us, heavy at times which is fine by me as it means dp won't be going to football Grin

Curious about the timings of Fridays snow. BBC weather lady not sure. Grin If Worcestershire snow could wait til about 5pm that would be ideal for me. Apologies to rush hour people.

Morning! -4 outside here in my bit of slightly-less-East-Kent-than-DDD :o

Thick frost outside, and I bet my children still don't wear coats to school.

It was -8 here in Norfolk an hour ago. We had about five inches of snowfall yesterday. Dd's school that 'never closes' is closed Hmm

Are we exempt from anymore now OYBBK?

Snow, snow, I know you're pretty
But I hate it when the roads aren't gritty... Sad

Thank you, again, OYBBK. Don't really mind snow at the weekend so long as DD's daddy can get here to take on the outdoor activities!

Brrr it's cold - I love it Grin

So DS has just left for school in his blazer. His concession to the cold was fingerless gloves Hmm

Report
DamnDeDoubtance · 16/01/2013 07:58

Fingerless gloves are a fashion statement not an item of clothing. Grin

Just started proper snow here. School is still open but just round the corner and I am mostly off today.

Thank you OYBBK, I am giving up my addiction to the BBC weather and sticking with you and the met office rain radar.

So if you could just give up your job and give us 15 minute updates that would be marvelous. Grin

Ok, rough timings (bit tricky as its not moving across uniformally) Tese may well change as it depends how quickly the system moves in. UKMO and GFS have slightly different timings by around 3 hours or so at the moment I think.

Early hours friday: light snow Wales and midlands. Perhaps into Yorks.

6am: across Wales and into western midlands. Some snow in the east perhaps due to snow showers.

9am: draw a line up from the IOW.

12pm: draw a line from west sussex.

3pm: pretty much everyone covered, perhaps not into western East Anglia or central eastern scotland yet, although eastern East Anglia may well have snow from coastal showers.

6pm: Pretty much full coverage

points to note: When I look at the met office to compare their thoughts with mine. there seems to be a magic snow barrier around Edinburgh/Glasgow. Looking at the UKMO model this makes absolutely no sense to me what so ever!!
Watch out for rain in the far SW and south west coastal areas (perhaps later on extending across to southampton)

Most Norfolk schools and a lot of north Suffolk schools closed. Temperature gauge in ds's car is reading -10. I'm 12 miles inland from the most Easterly point and have never known it drop that low! Went to let the dog out and the key to the (unheated) conservatory was covered in ice!
