thunderstorms tonight?

Associated with a cold front that's wiggling sort of north south across the UK. Torro have issued a convective discussion for the potential for isolated tornadoes. Sorry no links or extra info at this pointed. On an overcrowded wobbling train ( or is that the margarita I had with dinner?) on my phone.

It's a very definite line on the rainfall radar map - just to the west of me, and getting closer. No signs of lightning on the MetOffice map, though.

Btw, cold front isn't moving north south, it's aligned sort of north south moving eastwards!

Are you ahead or behind the front now spotty?

I am very interested in what's going on along the south coast on the leading edge of the front. Can you see how the straight line sort of breaks with the part across the channel being a bit behind the rest? Wouldn't be surprised if there weren't a tornado or waterspout report in that broken part of the line as it continues to move across.

The front has just arrived here. Rain and very noticeable wind gusts. There's a pitter-patter of stuff down the chimney, and the Sky box temporarily went offline.

I am about 10 miles west of Brighton and about half a mile inland. It is belting down here and very windy. Sky box on and off.

Sounds exciting both!

Mock If you hear of any damage tomorrow I'd be very interested.

Just looked at a different radar which has the split about 40 miles north of the coast. Not sure which is more accurate, I think it's the one I've just looked at as its higher resolution.

Oh no. Scuse my witterings, met office radar now also shows the split further north.

Southampton here and we have high winds, heavy rain, thunder and lightning. The sky box went offline at about 10pm and I've given up on it now.

Ooh a proper storm mummymccar!

Brrr eerie!

Wind is gusting but I can't hear rain and I'm pinned down by cats, so I can't look.

When's it likely to reach Kent, Beasty?

mogandme · 31/10/2012 22:54

Wet here - been raining ferociously since 9pm and heard what sounded like thunder about 15 minutes ago, but rain has just slowed to a steady drizzle.

It's quite slow Pascha, so I'm estimating around 2am, give or take an hour.
