Morning all - taking me a few minutes to get going, sp lease bear with me.
Looks like a snow day for me :) 8cm and still snowing - small amounts compared to many of you, but probably enough to be disruptive.

I see the snow has extended further west than the met office warnings. I would be interested in reports of snow depths to the west of the isle of Wight in the south please :)

Plenty of snow showers along the whole eastern coast (with perhaps the exception of some of norfolk)

Gatwick closed until tomorrow.

ok, off to look at the models.

we have some in Devon this morning - wasn't expecting it. I don't think it is very deep though but settled for the first time here.

East Dorset has about 4 or 5 inches I think but haven't been out yet to check properly. DD's school which never shuts is shut. Looks like the sky might dump another load soon.

A good 4 inches overnight in Kent. Glad I did the shopping yesterday, don't fancy digging the car out today.

looks like some respite for the NE and Scotland later on for a bit over night.

I am really unsure as to whether there will be a temporary warm up in the south on Saturday. I'm going to be honest and say that I'm waiting for some discussions on weather forums for this when they wake up.

So later today us Durham area MNers are going to have to decide if we are going ahead with our night out on Saturday or not Xmas Sad. What do you think?

Met office map is orange for us today but all pretty and green for the weekend but not sure I trust it as it has pretty much constantly showed no warnings for the following day until the last minute. The BBC says sleet then sun for Friday and Saturday. I'm just worried about how much ice will be on the roads if it all gets slushy in the day.

Sheffield

Mine and DD's schools are closed again. Good call really. No buses running. And it is still very deep in places and still snowing.

Forecast for the next five days after today howeer, on the BBC, is looking far more promising - fingers crossed.

Wow how things can change in twelve hours! We've gone from no snow to about three or four inches and we're by the sea on the central south coast. Schools are closed and it's still coming down. Luckily I'm on leave this week so no childcare dilemmas!

Quite a bit fell in the night in London SE22 - now maybe 10 - 15cm thick, with ice under the snow.

The weather is worse today, but both my DC's schools are open, despite being closed yesterday, whilst all the other schools round here that were open yesterday, are now closed Hmm

Essex- more snow overnight. Both DDs schools are shut. DD2s school (which never shuts)has left them loads of work to do on their internet site so she will be kept busy!

DH is stranded in Geneva- he went their for the day yesterday for a business meeting and ended up staying there.

Looking nervously at the departure and arrivals boards for London City airport but not hopeful he will make it back...
