what did your 8 mth old eat today?

(39 Posts)
I'm getting lazy low on ideas, need inspiration and am also starting to lose confidence - wondering if she's getting a balanced diet (she'd only eat breadsticks and cream cheese the other day!!), wondering if her diet is varied enough, etc etc and would just like to get some perspective.

So post what your 8 mth old (or thereabouts)ate today, thanks!
Elkiedee - pasta nests, this is a good idea!!

Since this thread started the biggest success for me has been breadsticks and Philadelphia. Blimey! I think DS would live off them if I let him!
Breakfast - Porridge with fruit puree and then a banana

Lunch - Sweet potato hash with savoy cabbage and egg. A rice cake or two. Tangerine segments. Apple and mango rice pudding (Organix pot)

Tea - Sausage, broccoli, pasta. Grapes. Plain yogurt with fruit puree.

DS is 9 month and today had:

Breakfast - 1.5 weetabix and cows milk

Lunch - Organix ready made pot + bits of what big sis was having e.g. pittas, cucumber sticks, red pepper, etc

Snack - breadsticks and banana

Tea - homemade chicken & sweet pot curry, grapes, sweetcorn fritter (great aren't they)

Plus 3 BFs.

Ds is only 7 months 1 wk but eats loads some days, today was one of them. He ate:
Breakfast - 1 weetabix, nibbled some toast fingers
Lunch - Roast chicken and sweet potato mashed together, then avocado mashed together with some pear and offered on a pitta bread - he loved it and sucked every last scrap off the pitta and gagged on most of the pitta too. Few spoons of greek yoghurt for dessert
Dinner - pasta and spinach sauce - believe this is a variation of an AK recipe but I was looking for inspiration for green veg and this was recommended. Ds could not get enough, if anyone is interested its loads of spinach steamed then sauted in a little butter, then mixed with cream cheese and cheddar cheese and a splash of milk, blitz and stir into pasta. Ds had this all over the place but completely loved it, a definite recommendation for anyone struggling to get green veg into their lo.
Apple and spoon full of greek yoghurt for dessert.
When I say "nursery type" food I guess I mean things that are really sold aimed at children, such as fish fingers, flavoured fromage frais. We buy both at home too, and it's not that there's anything wrong with it, but I hoped because my CM is Somali that my kids would get given food that was different from what they will have at home anyway.

lunch today was yummy home made broccoli & cheese soup and bread for finger food... she's finally getting the idea of finger food. Awaiting inspiration for what to give for tea tonight....
4 Mini shredded wheats, 1/2 banana, some rice cake, although most on floor, ditto steamed carrot & broccoli. Tea will be pasta & veg/tomato sauce with stewed pears & plain yoghurt.

DD2 is mostly blw, the banana & yoghurt are the only things she will let me spoon feed.

She is still bf on demand - 4-5 in the day & 2 at night.

elkiedee, what do you consider to be "nursery type food"?

DD ate baked beans with grated cheese on toast for lunch and cried when it was all finished!! grin
DS2 is now 9 months but has enjoyed pasta for a while and egg in various forms - we give him quite a bit of omelette and pancake. For pasta I stick with my own favourite supermarket own brand tagliatelle, little nests of long wavy pasta, as he can easily hold and bite it.

He's now going to the childminder 4 days a week and so he's having some different things though I think she gives a lot of "nursery" type food.

Pleased to report no ill effects from egg this morning...was kinda expecting her to puke cos that's what happened my mum the first time she fed my bro egg...she was in the car on the way to baby clinic, having had egg that morning and he was sick everywhere, had to go home again and change him!

Also gave her kiwi in the munchkin net thing and she knew exactly what to do with it, I think she finds it easier than finger food, especially for slippery slimy things like kiwi and banana.

If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]].
