Weaning

Does a baby know when to stop or will they carry on eating until they are sick?

I didn't have this problem with dd as she ate/still eats like a sparrow. Ds on the otherhand has a huge appetite. Yesterday he polished off 2 small pears in one sitting. The day before one and a half carrots. I read in a book that the two small pears should have been enough for 6 servings!!!!!!!!! I am stopping when I think he has had enough but he seems to be looking for more. He's five and a half months.

as he's still very young i'd offer more milk rather than more fruit tbh. he's maybe dropped the milk feed because he's filling his belly with the fruit. but what he needs is more milk.

Thanks , he's having breakfast too, plus bf when he wants. He is a real eating machine.

Hi, Lucy. My ds (now 2.6) was not a big baby particularly, but at five months he ate like a bloody horse! He ate probably twice as much as he eats now - and had loads of milk as well.

He should know when to stop - but there's a certain amount of education (some adults never get it!) between the brain/stomach information highway, and he may occasionally be sick if he's eaten too much. He'll learn not to.

I wouldn't worry unduly. By the time he's a toddler you'll probably be wishing he ate more!

Thanks Rabble, it's such a different experience to dd.
