weaning advice - where do i go from here?

DS is 6 months old and started on solids at 4mo and 3 weeks. He now has two meals per day (3 large veg cubes for lunch and 3 large fruit cubes for tea). He's had lots of first tastes and i've just started to combine different vegetables and fruits together. My health visitor said not to combine any foods till he was 6 months old but everyone else seems to be and he's been on the same things for ages. How do i progress it from here - when do you introduce breakfast? any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I started adding a bit of chicken to ds food at six months in a casserole as it tastes too strong otherwise.I think it is quite important to get them to try new things quite early on so I also used different vegs and then fish done in milk and potato all really pureed and runny.
I think I introduced breakfast at five months baby porridge stuff because ds was such a hungry baby but he was definetly on Weetabix and Ready Brek at six months. He had his bottle first thing at seven and then around 7.45 had maybe half a weetabix with warm milk until I gradually reduced the milk and increased the food.It is really hard to judge what to do every bit of advice seems so conflicting doesn't it.I can only tell you what I have done and it worked for me hope it does for you too!!

first proper cereals here were after morning breastfeed, which she took less of automatically at about 7 mths, we used weetabix or one of the commerical baby cereals. Then ready brek which she adored with pureed fruit to sweeten.
I mixed together veges which she like into some cubes such as pumpkin, sweet potato, then added a bit of pureed meat at about 8 mths, dd likes liver casseroles now aged 21 mths and she really loved most of Annabel Karmels meals at the set times, it really is a decent good book that one!

you should probably introduce some meat or other source of iron because his stores that he was born with will be running out by now. If you don't want to feed your son meat you could try green leafy veg, pulses and apricots. Why does your hv say not to combine foods? Breakfast cereal containing gluten (eg weetabix, readybrek)should be okay from 6 months but if you are anticipating allergies you may want to delay this until 8 months.

I started solids at 5-6 months and introduced a subsequent meal after each week. At six months babies can eat most things. I personally didn't introduce weetabix antil they were older but used baby porrige. I combined fresh foods and packets/jars for convenience. I very quickly went onto liquidising what the family was eating minus the salt. There is no set time to introduce breakfast - I would just go for it.

Shelbel, DD is 6 months today so same age as your DS ...
She started baby rice at 4 months too ... but I went really slowly for that first month.
By 5 months she had veggies at lunchtime (2 cubes) and baby rice and fruit at bedtime. I started giving her breakfast just after 5 months as she was starving by 9.30am after having a big b/f at 7.30am. Baby rice and pureed fruit to start with and then last week I started giving her some baby muesli .... I will wait a bit before giving her weetabix.
Today she had her first chicken ... a casserole of chicken (half a ch. breast), sweet potato, carrots, leeks, courgettes, swede and potato ... simmered in water (just enough to cover) for 20 minutes and pureed. She loved it ... The rest of it is frozen in ice cube portions and she will probably have 3 of those for lunch for a few days and then I will invent something else ... not sure what yet
