oily fish without bones?

I'm keen to feed DS (9 months) oily fish cos of the omega 3. But most of the oily fish I eat is full of little bones which are really hard to fish(!) out. I'm doing BLW so I don't really want to puree the fish, although I suppose I could and spread it on bread but that does sound like faff! Can anyone think of a type of oily fish that's not full of bones (apart from smoked salmon which he doesn't seem to like)?

What about those little tins of boneless and skinless mackrel etc in tomato sauce?

I get smoked mackerel in packets from the supermarket, it's boned - I just take the skin off the back. They are strong tasting but ds loved these from a baby!

I also think Tuna is a really good option, you can get nice thick steaks from the fishmonger of fish counter, I LOVE fresh tuna steaks - ds took to these too.

what about mashing sardines so the bones don't figure so much? they can still grab them with their hands, or you could put them on toast. i keep meaning to try it but i always forget... apparently they're a great source of calcium.

I tried mashed sardines on all of my DCs. They all hated it.

But they did eat fish pie for which I'd flake some salmon by hand. (Obviously they don't eat it anymore because they are over 2 years old).

You could also make a mackerel mousse thing. (Not my best line).

dd loves my mackerel pate, i'd have to say. just mix with philly and a blob of horseradish and some chopped up parsley.

Those smoked mackerel fillets in vacuum packs... are they not really salty? I bought some with the intention of giving ds a go but my mum thought I shouldn't . Hope they are OK as I think they are yum.

Thanks! Yes, it's the little thin bones that are the trouble - don't mind him crunching up the spine bones in tinned fish, but yesterday I had a lovely piece of fresh mackerel I'd grilled but ended up not giving him any because everytime I thought I'd found a chunk to give him it turned out to have lots of nasty long little bones in.

Ask the fishmonger for tail end.

Sainsburys tinned portuguese sardines in spring water. Just sardines and spring water. I used to drain them, take out the larger bone bit in the middle then mash them and put them on toast. Mine loved it when they were little. DD 3.10 will still eat them but DS 2 turns his nose up!
