Food throwing

Ds is only 8 months old (nearly) so still very much learning about eating (we are blwing). I just wondered how you're supposed to react to all the throwing food on the floor... He does it A LOT. Am I supposed to be laughing and letting him have his fun so that he only has positive experiences of mealtimes, or should I be putting on a stern face and saying no? Sometimes he decides he's going to sweep things off his highchair tray before even trying them, then he looks for more food. At the moment I'm giving him stuff bit by bit and he'll often throw the first few bits on the floor before trying and then eating later bits of the same food. At least our dogs are delighted by it...
What do you all do?

ah well, i don't have dogs so i just used to say nothing and pick it back up. it must be fun for a baby to do blw and discover for the first time that they are in charge of a couple of dogs!
dd doesn't do it much any more, i think it's a stage all babies go through, to see what happens to stuff thrown from a height. i pretty much ignored it, as i recall. although when she forgets to say 'all done' she is still known to signal her desire to leave the table by flinging everything to the floor, so i do keep a weather eye on her.

I remember this, I left it on the floor.

The game is that you pick up (sometimes the same with toys).

Clear up at the end of the meal once you are satisfied ds has eaten.

Also if playing with food it can be that they are not hungry so take it away.

At that stage, I agree that it's learning about gravity as much as anything. But ds does it when he's not hungry any more. Once he starts playing with the food, I'd remove it...

ignore the name, tis aitch.
dd definitely did it at the beginning of a meal as well as i recall. just a few times, to keep us on her toes.

i ignore it. she does it to amuse people. when PILs come over for lunch they're forever bobbing up and down picking bits up for her, laughing along. dd knows it doesn't amuse me though. she drops it, she loses it.

OK thanks, I will ignore! Just have to grit my teeth when something I've lovingly made goes straight on the floor without even a second glance (the other day it was a pancake with spinach and cheese sauce, and I had actually managed a proper pancake flip and everything...)
