Baked beans

Can 9 month old baby eat these - I've read a few threads which suggest they can. If so, should it be the reduced salt & sugar variety?

I can't remember exactly when I started giving DS baked beans but it was definitely before 1 - yes I use reduced sugar and salt (check the ingredients though - some versions have artificial sweetener in, which is not ideal - Heinz no longer does, just has less sugar).

At first I mashed them with a fork, otherwise he'd swallow them whole and I guess they could be a choking hazard? He's been having them unmashed (as he now has enough teeth to chew them) since about 18 months. He LOVES them, my only problem is resisting the temptation to let him have them too often, as they're so easy.

If you have time and inclination you can also make your own healthier version, with butterbeans/navy beans etc. and homemade tomato sauce.
