Chewing (BLW)

Hi everyone!

DS is 27 weeks and by now playing around nicely with his food an stealing my spoon whenever he is able to.

He will suck the life out of bread and fruit but does not seem to have grasped that chewing business yet (or better gumming as he does not have teeth yet). And veggies are not very interesting at all at the moment.
I am just wondering as bits of food will break off and then they are in his mouth. He might move them around but generally just spits them out again as they are too big. Will the skill of chewing come with time? At the moment I sit in front of him and look like a cow as I keep chewing to try and show him what to do - and yes, I feel rather silly as my beloved son stares at me with a big grin on his little face.

He'll get the hang of it eventually. As long as he's enjoying it now, and trying lots of different tastes and textures, he'll be fine. It's generally only when babies don't get the chance to try different textures that they end up refusing.

Try giving him something really hard, like a Bickiepeg or rusk.

Thanks for the reply!

He loves his spelt rusks (not sure where to get them from as my mum got us them in Germany) with cream cheese on although he seems to lick the cheese off and leave the rusk.

Will bake some bread sticks tomorrow and also have a look for some other things as my own diet is not the best so will have to make a bit more of an effort to ensure variety for both if us.

if you've only been doing it for a week i think it sounds like you're doing great. i remember dd used to jam loads of things into her mouth and then spit them out when she started off.

Thanks as well Aitch.

Did those breadsticks today and they were in and out of his mouth as well.
If the smell of his poos are anything to go by then he must get some food

Aitch, did she harvest it too? DD used to in the roof of her mouth. She also went through a stage of just shoving too much in then having to spit it out again until she learnt how much she could chew at a time.

Jomaja, sounds like he is doing great... pmsl at your cow impression!
