Weaning

Anybody started weaning and then stopped again?

On day 5 of weaning she had pear for the second time and I think is screaming with tummy pain. I'm thinking of stopping and restarting in a couple of weeks. I'm not doing BLW and no plans to. She isn't 6 months (I know I know) but she BFs every 60-90mins during the day and has gone from sleeping 6-9 hours to waking 3-6 times a night hungry for 3 weeks. During these 3 weeks she has only put 9oz so its not a growth spurt. She is a big girl at 91st percentile - she needs filling up not calories. I won't give formula and I can't fit any more milk feeds in. Should I perserve with solids or not. Screaming could be teething, she has red cheeks today. Arghhh. Between lack of sleep and constant feeding I'm a zombie.

Tapster -- my son also screamed the first couple days of weaning, but it wasn't pain. He ate his food really quickly and then fed for 45 min (both sides). I tried doubling the amount of food and that worked for him. He also fed about 8-9 times a day, like your daughter. So you could try that. But also we did start and stop a few times in the first month or two due to antibodics, etc. Or you could try something else, like carrot, in case it is something about the pear she doesn't like.

Good luck

Tapster - I sympathise. My daughter is 5 months and 1 week and I am bfing ALL THE TIME - like every hour. She feeds for half an hour each time ...it's doing my head in.

I'm actually beginning to up the formula (she's always had some as was prem so we had feeding difficulties at the beginning). I've just introduced a 2nd bottle because I'm trying to stave off weaning just yet. But I understand if you don't want to.

Even with the 2nd bottle I am probably bfing 8 times a day! But the bottles keep her going for a few hours at a time so I get a chance to do something else for a moment or two.
