Is chorizo evil?

Hello, I am cooking macaroni cheese with chorizo in it tonight for me and dh. I plan to fry the chorizo first, then make the cheese sauce using some of the chorizo fat, so the whole dish will be a bit spicy / chorizo-flavoured.
My dd is 9 months old - do you think it would be ok for her to have it too? Should she have actual bits of chorizo do you think (chopped up)?
She has enjoyed things with paprika and garam masala before, so I'm not worried about her not liking the taste, but just whether the other ingredients in the chorizo should be avoided (it's probably quite salty isn't it? And made of donkeys?)
Any opinions appreciated - thank you!

I would be interested to hear what Spanish mums say but I personally would question the saturated fat content and the nitrate content

I 'll have some though please

I would have no problem with this. Little ones need saturated fat, don't they? I am really ignorant about nitrates, so figure that will protect me and my family from their evilness, right?

Saltiness would worry me a bit so I wouldn't give chorizo itself but I would use the fat.

Def. v. salty though - I would avoid personally - just add the chorizo at the last minute and take bubs food out before then.

Thanks all. I too know nothing about nitrates; at the risk of exposing myself to their nefarious powers, can anyone explain?

I don't know about evil but are you sure you have thought this through..the fat from the chorizo to make a cheese sauce sounds gross it will be all globby..what cheese are you using?

chorizo and cheese is very high fat and salt for anybody

(stomach forms total leadne ball at the thought) sorry..I'd leave out the cheese and make a tomato sauce for the pasta and add chorizo but not fry it and serve with green leaves or fresh spinach

actually I agree with you zippi, but it DOES sound delicious, hte kind fo thing I would serve my guests meagre portions then creep down in the middle of hte night nad eat from the fridge with the serving spoon and some Heinze tomato ketchup

then belch a lot

Actually I would use butter as well as the fat from the chorizo to make the sauce. But I am a bit of a fat fiend (as in, I love fat, not as in I am a fiendish obese person. Though if I carry on like this etc etc).

well go on then what cheese is it?

for weaning I would ythink it was too heavy going to be honest but it depends how much she eats I guess...

Cheddar cheese.

After all that, I think I am actually not going to add the chorizo til the end now, so dd won't get any (after discussing with dh - think he is concerned there won't be enough to go round...)

well ds had homemade pizza with chorizo last week and he hasn't exploded and his kidneys seem to be in fabulous working order if the amount of times i got peed on yesterday is anything to go by

I know nitrates are in a lot of cured foods and they = bad for you (not sure what they do though). Would say ok in moderation for me and DH but would avoid giving them to DS.
