she has no idea. you're doing the right thing. of course you'll make sure you watch him with raw things (as well as soft things) to make sure he doesn't choke.

baby rice is entirely pointless.

you are not wrong

she is

baby rice is like giving wallpaper paste

if he is 20 weeks, he is 6 weeks off recommended weaning age, and if he was 4 weeks prem then does that not make difference too?

you aren;t ready to wean, so don;t ! have you looked at the BLW blog?

Just burn the red book and ignore the silly bints.

If my children need medical attention we see a qualified doctor. Otherwise, we don't need any surveillance.

absolutely !! you do what you are comfortable with, when you are ready !! gnawing on a carrot is preferable IMO to a teething ring ! you sound like you know exactly what you are doing !

Hi jj - My HVs are the same, any question about food (pre and post weaning) and they are telling me to shove baby rice at her. More recently was told that she should be on 3 meals by now (when she was 27 weeks and had only been eating 1 meal for 5 days ). I have come to the conclusion that unless you have built a good relationship with a HV who knows you and your LO then they can't understand your individual situation and therefore can't give the correct advice.
Read up on weaning and seek advice from other Mums and you won't go far wrong.

Good Luck with it when you get there! I am pureeing and DD loves it! She painted herself and the Lounge in carrot yesterday, we had great fun and she ate some too

I was appalled to get a phone call from my HV the other day (standard procedure when a child has been in a & e) to find that my lovely, brilliant, right-on HV has had the cheek to go on maternity leave

The one that phoned me was the one I had originally with DD, who I thought had gone for good. She was the one that expressed extreme distaste (said "yuck, dont do that") at mixing b/milk with soya formula because DD didnt like the soya formula......you get the picture I think......
