hi, my dd is 6 1/2 months old and has been having purees for about a month. i am not happy with her weight gain tho and feel that she is now taking too much mush and not enough milk.
she is deciding how much she has (mush) and lets me know when she's had enough, but i am getting concerned that my milk supply is diminishing and as i have no desire to give up ats, i dont want her to rely on the mush for her calorie intake as its obviously not sufficient.
i have been offering her 'whole' foods as well, and am seriously considering whether to cut back/out the mush and concentrate on blw.
any advice would be gratefully received. tia

Are you bfeeding before you give her food? That's a good way to make sure she's filling up on calories from milk.

Whatever you feed her, offer milk first. As you say, she should be getting most of her nutrients from milk now, so always let her satiate her hunger with milk and then offer whatever food you choose "for fun".

have been offering her milk about an hour before the food. she seems to still be bfing quite frequently but obviously not taking as much.

I switched DS (6 months) from mush to blw last week after almost a month on purees, however I am sad to say that we are back on mush as he got real grumpy when it came to meal times and as soon as i sat down with a bowl and spoon he got really excited and wolfed it down. he is however a big boy and has never had a prob with wieght. i bf him not long before mush time, just a short feed ( till he comes off) then give him some puree and then some finger foods. he seems much happier now. aitch, if you watching this thread thanks for all the advice but ds has led me to give him purees

As long as the mush contains protein, fat & a source of calcium you needn't worry too much. (although obviously milk is important at this age) My ds is almost 8 mths old and is now eating more solids than breast milk. tbh I was upset at first (missed the breast feeds, plus I stopped losing weight easily!!) I did cut back on solids for a while which resulted in night wakings

My DD was similar at 6 1/2 months. (now 11months. She just loved her solids (puree stuff) and couldn't be bothered with milk. She even started refusing her morning feeds as she wanted to be up and about. It sounds a bit weird and I never would have thought a baby would go off milk it but my DD just wasn't interested at all. I had to stop BF -obviously you don't want to do that and I'm not suggesting for a minute you do. Just to let you know that's my story. Maybe you could give her less solids. I wouldn't worry too much about weight gain so long as she is doing all the motor/vocal skills etc. In fact I don't think my DD has been weighed since she was 7 months... I just go by the clothes getting too small.
