Ds (10 months today, hurrah!) has decided there is to be no more mush or spoons in his life (unless the spoon has petit filou on it, in which case the rules are different apparently).
So this week he's been living on roast chicken, new potatoes, carrot, broccoli, lumps of cheese, homemade chicken balls and chunks of butternut squash.
That sounds quite varied when I write it down but was worried there isn't much variety. Gave him pasta with salmon and broccoli for lunch and he ate nothing. It seems he won't put wet food in his mouth, just squishes it.
Do I just keep going with the things he likes or can someone give me some new ideas?

It sounds like he's eating a good selection of things.
I'd keep giving those and offering new things aswell. Fruit too.

Stick with what he likes but put one new thing on the plate each time.

soory, he eats tonnes of fruit too, that is ok on a spoon pureed for some reason. He's a complex young man

There is a book called something like "Finger Food for Babies and Toddlers" which has quite a few recipes. You could try making mini quiches - ds loves quiche - and small meatballs (out of minced meat) as well. And you get mini fish fingers now which are quite cute! Ds also loves sausages which mush down nicely for the toothless...

Sounds like he's doing really well. Have you tried toast, pitta pockets etc? Pasta is a big fave here, don't think any of us would survive without it. I agree you should keep offering things he likes mixed with new things. DS is a great eater but didn't initially take to a few things which he now loves. We just kept having them on the plate, and making sure he saw us eating them. What about trying pasta with no sauce on it until he gets used to it?

You could make your own fish fingers as well as your own chicken nuggets.

Toasted bagels go down really well in our house. With butter on or grated cheese, soft cheese, ham, marmite etc.

My DD squishes squishable food, it's all part of learning about food. Don't worry about that. It's a messy job but keep trying him with different textures and tastes.

You can slice up the sweet potato into wedges and roast them or you could bake it in oven and just let him get messy.

My 14 month old likes to have a spoon in her hand but when she really wants to cram it in she uses her hands and that inc weatabix and spag bol, shepherds pie etc.

Her favourite thing to squeeze between her fingers is banana.

He's quite keen on all bread products so might start experimenting with pitta pockets. He did actually really enjoy the roasted butternut squash without squishing that so maybe he'll get more adventurous. It's funny how stuff like pasta which he used to eat as part of spag bol which I spoon fed, he now doesn't seem to want. I think the idea of one new thing at a time makes sense. Thanks for all the ideas
