Oranges- a word of warning!

I may be the only person in the world who didn't know this, but citrus fruit should be approached with caution before a year old.

DS is 7mths, and loves food. He shouted the other day for some of my orange, so i peeled him a few bits. The next day i gave him a bit more. Subsequently he screamed all day yesterday like i have never heard him cry before- it was dreadful. He was in agony, and had dreadful nappy rash...then i realised the only different thing was the orange. A quick google, and clearly i am a useless mother.

Poor DS is much better today. Just wanted to say incase anyone else didn't know, and thought they'd give some to their little one and got the same result.

I didn't know that either. My dd is 16 months and still doesn't like citrus fruits - although the paediatrician told me she should be having fresh orange juice everyday for the vitamin C when she was just 7 months!

Drusilla - my dd has eczema - so maybe it's best that she avoids the citrus fruits!

DTDs (5yo) can't eat oranges as it goves them cyctitis type symptoms later that day.

Didn't realise what it was until another mother at teh same school told me about her DD who is the same.

I get that too. Can't eat/drink any citrus stuff without downing several pints of water to dilute.

I know a couple of adults who can't drink any orange juice (or orange squash with 'real fruit' in) cos of cystitis style symptoms.

They seem fine with other citrus fruits (but then I suppose you don't have a whole glass of lemon juice, you just have a tiny bit).

Ds seems fine with it though.
