Problems with fruit peel

My 11 month old DD ate unpeeled fruit without a problem (stuff like apricots, nectarines, tomatoes, etc.) until a couple of weeks ago. Since then, I keep finding pieces of peel in her mouth after meals. I suspect that it's because she's finally starting chewing her food rather than just swallowing pieces whole!

I wasn't too worried about it, but both DM and MIL seem to be freaked out by the fact that I'm not peeling fruits, so it made me wonder!

Anyway, what do people do about this? Is it a choking risk? Do you peel? If so, what fruits? Or just check their mouth after every meal?

Is the peel causing her any distress, making her cough etc? If not, I personally wouldn't worry or would just check her mouth. As she gets more teeth, she'll deal with it again. I've never peeled anything for DS and never had any problems.

I definitely wouldn't start peeling things if she's coped so far. SIL peeled everything for her DC and is still doing it 5 years on - apples, peaches, pear etc - and wishes she'd never started doing it.

No, it never seems to bother her or make her gag - she seems to kind of just play with it in her mouth without swallowing it. Thanks for reassuring me - I'll carry on with my devil-may-care attitude to fruit-peeling then Wink
