Hi ladies,

Dd (7months) is doing ok on weaning and seemed to really enjoy a dairylea sandwich the other day. I've also read about using (low sugar and salt) peanut butter in a sandwich, any other ideas for a 7month old? She really enjoys finger food so try to give her something each day but her appetite is growing now so need more than just cucumber sticks etc

Thanks :-)

Mashed avocado is lovely and my dd goes potty for it. No salt and really healthy.

I'd just make a range of sandwiches similar to what you'd have, egg mayo, tuna, chicken, tomato etc. DD rather loves cream cheese and pesto sandwiches...

DS also really liked hummus and pita bread cut into strips to make it easier for him to cope with. (hand them ready dunked pitta bread, handing over a whole pot of hummus is just asking for trouble). He also loved chunks of cold cooked chicken.

DD loves sour cream and chive dip with breadsticks. and picnic eggs stolen from my plate when I wasn't looking

Sweet potato wedges are good, both hot (well, let them cool to warm to stop burning little hands!) at the time you cook them or cold as a snack for lunch the next day.

If you can do a low salt version of whatever you would normally eat yourself, then serve that.

Thank you!

Mary do you make your own hummous and cheese/chive dip?

Can I use mayo or salad cream? Have tuna in water (as read brine is bad) but what can I mix it in for a sandwich..

Mayo or salad cream is fine for egg/tuna

Dd liked cheese and tomato. Grated cheese and dip the tomato in boiling water to remove the skin, then chop into a mush removing seeds. It was a faff but she really enjoyed it.

Mayo that's not freshly made (so not raw egg) is fine! No, made my own hummus once, DCs both prefer Waitrose morroccan stuff to anything I produce.

I tend to just get the no-drain tuna in springwater.

Both DCs really love savory pancakes, basic pancake mixture with whatever veggies you have, particularly any left over roasted ones cut up small. Make up little pancakes (sort of big digestive biscuit sized!), or cut into strips.

cheese and carrot scones were popular with DD.

A good place for recipes for finger foods is actutally the Cbeebies 'I can cook' website! All my family like the carrot and squash cookies - they taste fine made without the optional added sugar (both carrots and butternut squash are sweet enough).

Anything you have is fine, my ds has had ham, cheese and tuna sandwiches recently. He also likes jam and smooth peanut butter. He is also 7 months.

His favourite food is banana pancakes, I use the Girl Called Jack recipe. He also loves most fruit, especially soft ones like peaches, plums and apricots. Bread sticks are easy for little hands and sticks of banana. He attempted to eat a large chunk of pork chop tonight but after chewing for 10 minutes he decided that 2 teeth just isn't enough for that!

I do sandwiches, rice cakes, bage strips. Put humous, tinned tuna/ salmon mixed with natural yoghurt, mashed banana, grated cheese, mashed avocado, chicken, Philadelphia on them. Also spread with Ella's kitchen pouches such as sweet potato, carrots if in a rush

Tinned sardines (the ones in tomato sauce, not brine) are good. Also, cooked chicken, ground up into a paste.
