7mo constipated - advice please, nothing seems to be working!

Ds (7mo) started bits of food at about 5.5 months (we're doing blw pretty much), and is an enthusiastic eater. The last few weeks he's had problems pooing - he'll go pink and make straining noises briefly, but all that comes out is a tiny (fingernail sized) bit of poo, once or twice a day. The funny thing is it's been soft, not rabbit droppings like dd used to produce when constipated. A few times I've tried laying him down (he always strains sitting on his bottom which can't help) and taking his nappy off when he's strained, he pushes a tiny bit out and then just kind of gives up and happily wriggles around. He's not distressed - it's almost like he just doesn't know how to push out solid poo? Problem is now he is constipated as in the tiny bits that come out are hard. I've tried offering extra breast feeds, offering water regularly with and between meals, he's back eating just fruit and veg, diluted fruit juice, and brown sugar in water which a relative recommended. He refuses prunes or prune juice. Nothing has worked. I think I'm going to take him to the gp, but they were less than helpful with dd's constipation problems, I was wondering if anyone else here is having/has had similar problems and has any advice please?

Our solution was the magic poo puree! Soak dried apricots and prunes in some water so they get plump and juicy. Blitz in blender. Add a spoonful everyday to porridge. We still have the same breakfast now at 13 months - too scared to change it! I think it tastes better than just a prune mixture.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it this morning, I thought it tasted quite nice but he had one lick and then refused to open his mouth to eat any more. Think he's getting expert at detecting the dreaded prune... Might try with just apricot tomorrow.
