Finger foods

Hi can anyone give me idea for finger foods my baby can have for meals? We've got all the finger foods they sell in supermarkets eg ricecakes baby crisps and baby biscotti etc etc but they seem more like snacks? Baby is not so great with mushy finger foods eg eating banana (although she does do it) and jacket potato etc she is better with an actual finger food if you see what i mean eg bread. I am pretty useless with food in general, baby or not, so I'm clueless to be honest.

Actual finger food could include:

Batons of steamed veg eg carrot, parsnip, green beans, courgette, broccoli, cauliflower etc.

Wedges of roast veg eg sweet potato, butternut squash, potato.

Strips of omelette
Eggy bread
Well cooked scrambled egg

Wedges of ripe fruit such as nectarine, pear, apricots, peach, plum

Steamed or poached wedges of apple

Halved grapes, other soft fruit like raspberries, blueberries, strawberries

Mini pancakes
Mini vegetable muffins

Sliced hard boiled egg
Carrot fritters (finely grated carrot mixed with self raising flour and then pan fried into little fritters. Can do the same with courgette).

Grated cheese, or cheese batons

Thanks I'll make a note of these. She seems to like feeding herself although I really don't like the mess

This article might make you feel better about the self feeding and associated mess Smile

I don't like the mess (and I'm not at all a clean freak) but I prefer finger food because I can watch from a distance and don't get stressed. But I did have to get a couple of long sleeved bibs!

I recommend the baby led weaning cookbook for recipes and ideas. I didn't blw but mixed finger foods and purée and still use the cookbook.

As well as the stuff above my ds has fish cakes and little finger sandwiches with cream cheese. Also bits of emmental cheese (lower salt than most cheeses).

Put the smushy stuff on toast fingers. Dds favourites are avacado and banana.

If I want to give her mashed potato, I roll it into balls that she can pick up.

Little pancakes work well too, either sweet (with fruit in) or savoury (with veg, cheese etc). I usually whizz up the fruit or cooked veg and add to the mixture before frying.

Pasta is a great finger food, dd loves it with homemade sauce, I add in tuna or chicken for protein.

Omelette is great too, with low salt beans. Again, I whizz up cooked veg with the egg so it goes nice and fluffy then cook and cut into manageable pieces.

I'm sorry I think you need to embrace the mess, it's how they learn.

I'll try and think of more.
