Vomiting during a meal

Have been having lots of success weaning 5mth old dd until today - she was having a meal of mashed carrots and she was really sick while I was feeding her, this is the first time it has happened (TBH it gave me a fright) she brought back quite a bit of milk from a feed about 2.5 hrs earlier. Has anyone else experienced this?

Did she gag on some of the carrot? My eldest had the ability to occasinally gag on the very ned part of his meal and bring the whole lot back up again. The gag reflex can be a bit over developed in some babies. Did she go on to eat more? Has she been sick again? If the answers are yes and no (in that order) I wouldn't worry, just go carefully and hope she doesn't gag again!

My dd2 did the same thing. It might be worth waiting a little while before trying again.

She did gag a bit and then spewed. I didn't try to feed her anymore for fear of upsetting her. She had some milk afterwards and kept that down. I think I just panicked!!!! Thanks

dd used to do this frequently as she had reflux and continued to do so regularly until about a year . Possibly the carrot wasn't quite as smooth as normal (she may still prefer purees rather than mash) or she took a bigger mouthful so she gagged or it just caught her throat, perhaps she had a bit of wind or hiccoughed. Once they start to gag sometimes the food, and anything else recently consumed, will come back. As a one off I wouldn't worry unless she is running a temperature or gets diaorrhea too.

Thank you. I think I just got a fright, it's the most I've ever seen her bring back. We'll try again tomorrow!!!!
