Sandwich ideas for 8 month old

DanielMummy · 01/08/2006 14:06

My little one will be 8 months old in a week's time and he really loves having a tiny sandwich that he can feed himself, as part of his meal.
So far I've made them from grated cheese with yogurt, mashed banana, mashed avocado. Has anyone any suggestions of other fillings which stick together well, as he hasn't got very good hand coordination yet. Not egg, as I don't plan to introduce that until he reaches 9 month.

Marmite, cream cheese, thinly sliced cucumber, grated carrot, jam not necessarily altogether!!

Why not egg, if it's hard boiled? Hardboiled egg mixed with mayonaise was a favourite with ds.

Otherwise yes, Philly cheese is terrific, either with or without cucumber.

Actually I have to say grated cheese with yogurt sound vile to me.

smooth peanut butter is fine if no allergies in yr family.
hummous.
taramasalata (!)
I guess you could use any kind of fruit or veg puree actually.

I guess if you're being that cautious about eggs then suggesting peanut butter isn't going to go down too well...
(and if you do go for egg, cold scrambled egg is easier than making egg mayo)
chicken well mashed up in mayo or yophurt?

lol Mrs B
There is no issue with pb at this age tho is there, if no allergies I mean?
And I agree with clumsymum that hardboiled egg exspecially the yolk (white is more allergenic IIRC) is fine.

Great ideas thank you. Keep them coming. Will definitely try cream cheese, cucumber, chicken. And he's already got a taste for hummus, I let him have some when he was staring at me eating it. I'll give jam a miss for now, as I'm trying to keep sugar to a minimum still.
You're spot on Mrs Badger. I don't plan to introduce peanut butter until he's 1. I keep craving peanuts myself, but waiting till I stop breastfeeding.
Also thought marmite wasn't recommended until later, because of the salt content. I love marmite and my husband hates it, so will be interested to see which of us he takes after in that regard.
