ds is nearly 8 months and has just progressed from purees to lumpier ones. at what age can i give raisins etc and do i need to cut them up smaller, i dont want him to choke.

he is just managing to chew and not gag as much at the moment.

also what other finger foods can i give him and what size should i cut them into?

I occasionally give them to my 18 month but they reappear intact in his nappy so I don't really see the point for him. I suppose it depends if your ds chews his food.

Can't remember when i started giving them, but dd (aged 15 months) has been having them for ages and LOVES them.
Haven't seen any in nappy yet!

I think by 11 or 12 mths mine could manage raisins - but they do tend to come out whole!!

DS is 10 months and has been eating dried apricots for a while now. Have just started giving him raisins. I thought he was eating them but it turns out he just swooshes them round his mouth and then swallows them whole - and thats the way they come out the other end!

you can whizz them down a bit w/the hand blender.

my 7-month-old has had them whizzed in her porridge.

I gave my DS them at about 7 or 8 months, but they sometimes appear whole and 'undried' in his nappy! So now I snip them in half with scissors first to break the skin as I think that helps him digest them.

just bought some for dd who is 13mths and most ended up on the floor, like expats idea about going in the porridge will definitely try that

I put them in rice pudding and stew them with other fruits so that they are softer - but they often still come out intact on the other end. My DS has eaten them since 8 mths and likes them "neat" too.
