Portion sizes

I'm never sure how much to offer as portion sizes. If my 7 month old really likes something, I think he'd try to carry on eating until he was to pop if I let him.

I was looking at babyfood jar sizes and they seem to vary from about 100g -200g.

Can anyone give me an idea of the size of an average portion, either in weight or number of ice cubes? Thanks.

I used to fill up old jars and freeze them (with a celophane lid - they don't crack). That was a portion size in my mind,

An averagesize would be 150g though, going by the jar sizes you mention.

Thanks Soupdragon. Great tip about being able to freeze jars as I've already broken 3 ice-cube trays when trying to get the cubes out.

DS would have 3 or 4 'ice' cubes as a 'portion' to start with.

I too demolished several ice cube trays until I got my 'eye' in enough to just dollop some food into a plastic bowl with a lid and freeze that.

You could try pouring boiling water over the back of the tray (pop it in a freezer bag 1st so they don't all fall out while it is upside down ahving water poured on it !!!

I used to laugh how many ice cubes my little chubster would eat!, I used to fill up a freezer bag inside a genorous size coffee mug of puree'd fruit/veg etc.

Dont worry if he loves it let him pop , nothing nicer than a chubby baby, he wont turn into an obese adult. It's more worrying when they wont eat believe me, and what he loves this week he'll throw on the floor next.
