which is the best bib on the market but won't break the bank?

I have spent several ££££'s on bibs since ds started weaning but cannot find one to meet all my needs. I had a wipeable ones but the dye started coming off one of them and because they were felxible the catch bit didn't seem to catch much as it wasn't open. I tried one with sleeves but found it annoying because it wasn't washable and ds didn't like me putting his arms in. Plus, the he can pull the ones with velcro around the neck off. He ends up just sitting in most of the food he eats.

Tried one of the brother max catch ones but again it wasn't washable.

Ds crumbles things and turns his head to the side so needs something that catches everything but ideally covers the shoulders too. I want one that catches the food and is wipeable without having to wash everytime and one that he cannot pull off. Looked at the tommee tippee pastic ones but reviews weren't very good.

Suggestions please?

We had one made or of wet suit fabric which was bloody brilliant. I'll have a Google for it.

Supermarket sleeved fabric bib with plastic catcher bib over - I found the packs of 2 from the Pound Shop to be excellent, in fact I'm still using DS's over a year after buying! I stopped using the sleeved bib after a while as they were a bit overkill and instead bought a cheap shower curtain which goes on the floor under the high chair, then shaken out in the garden.

I bought a load of cheap long sleeved t-shirts and just put them in the wash each time.

Or had him eat naked then hosed him down after if the house was warm.

But then I have a hatred of all the little bits and pieces of baby tat that seem to accumulate.

dishtowel tucked in their top and lots of changes of clothes. you could spend the whole of weaning looking for the 'right' bib (but why would you- life is too short) but basically weaning is messy and nothing will direct that food into his mouth any better than it's already happening. just accept there will be mess and get on with it. really not worth spending money on lost of different bibs.

We had a couple from Ikea and a long sleeved one from boots. Also a Tommee tippee wipe able one which seems to be holding up well

We (me, DS 2.8 yrs and DS (8 months) usually eat outside on a picnic blanket if warm, inside on blanket at lunch if cold, at table with highchair and baby on my lap for dinner and breakfast
Toddler wears plastic pelican bib if rice or wet foods, baby wears as little as poss weather dependent, and a fabric bib (try ones with poppers not Velcro maybe?) And I am resigned to him needing fresh clothes after most meals and quite often myself too. So much washing!
But the sleeved bibs were awful, fabric/towel ones great ad can use reverse side to do the first wipe of face and hands. Couldn't.do that with the plastic backed ones I used for DS1.
Good idea above buying a few cheap long sleeve shirts for mealtimes.

Second the Bibetta neoprene ones. You can rinse them out after use and they wash and tumble dry great.

I got them from Amazon but I think they have specials in their own website.

I didn't like the neoprene ones. I couldn't get the smell out if I washed st the recommended temperatures.

Thanks guys. Sounds like it's personal preference. Have ordered the neoprene ones so will are how we get on.

I swear by the Ikea long sleeved ones. I had some of the Tesco and Asda ones too but the Ikea ones still look nice after lots of washes and the supermarket ones definitely don't!

Do you not find that anything liquid, like soup just soaks right through the ikea ones? Or is there a more plastic one I've missed?

I've got the red and blue ones and stuff just went through to the DCs clothes.

DS1 painted in one, luckily he only had a vest on underneath, its a bit multicoloured now. . .

If it's quite messy we run a hot bath before hand (too hot to get into). Strip her to her nappy, eat and then stick her in.
