Really stupid question re; dishwasher and bottles

I wash ds bottles in the dishwasher now, instead of hand washing them. I then sterilise them as ds is only 9mths. But should I rinse the bottles before putting them into the steriliser?

You don't need to sterilise them at all if they're been through the dishwasher.

I know, and I'm working up to that (slowly!) but do I need to rinse them? Like you do if you've washed them up in washing up liquid?

SD is right. In North America most people have dishwashers so there isn't a market for sterilisers at all. Just make sure you put the rubber bits on the top rack so they don't melt!

I wouldn't think so, the dishwasher should rinse them really well.

I would chuck out the steriliser. At 9 months kids are starting to pick up all kinds of things as they crawl around so I dont think you really need to sterilise if you use a dishwasher

I haven't sterilised since ds was 4 months old and now at 7months we have just got a dishwasher and chuck it all in there and then make the bottles up as soon as they come out. No washing or anything Grin

Chuck the steriliser and no need to rinse.

Thankyou all, I'll be brave today and not rinse and then if that goes well i'll stop using the steriliser!

What about the salt deposits in dishwasher. Don't think they add salt to their dishwashers in the states?

All the DTs bottles go in the dishwasher - but I always rinse and air dry in case of salt deposits.

I'm probably mad/silly/over-concerned............
