I put this on the end of one of my other posts but not sure I will get any replies on there.
I'm convinced this weaning lark is harder when you start at 6 months+ (yes yes i know its better for their guts etc). I've tried him on finger foods and he'll suck a rice cake and thats about it if anything so much as nearly gets swallowed he spits it out. He also won't eat anything mashed or pureed so what do i do? I'm panicking that all the books say they need extra food from 6 months because their iron stores start to deplete but there's no way he's eating anything maybe a teaspoonful a day.
It seemed so much easier when i weaned dd at 4 months as she started off like this but food was established by 6 months if it takes ds that long he'll be 9-10 months before he's eating enough. Should i get him follow on milk to ensure he has enough iron or what?

His main source of calories (and iron too) will still be milk for a while yet. At the moment it's just a case of giving him little tastes and getting him used to the taste and texture of different foods. Don't be put off by this iron supplies depleting stuff; it starts to deplete at 6 months but it doesn't happen overnight - he's fine until around 12 months, as far as I remember.

I don't think it's leaving him until 6 months that's the problem; some babies are just like this with food!

don't panic, they're all individuals, leave it another couple of weeks
