I was at toddler group yestaday talking to a young mum, her dd is 15 weeks, on 3 meals a day, she weaned her at 13 weeks and gave her baby rice at 8 weeks (with her milk) Shock

She said i should wean dd2 (12 weeks) Shock

And she works in child care (she should know better)

My dd2 is very hungry but she's fine with her milk at the moment, i know i will have to wean her a bit early but as close to 6 months as possible. 13 weeks is just mad Shock

why mad? Some children are hungrier than others. If there's no history of allergy, then why stick it out 'til 6 months??

Weaning onto solids is a developmental isue not a hunger issue !!!! There are more calories in milk than in solids.

Alex - there are reasons why 26 weeks are suggested by most countries !

Have a look \link{http://abm.me.uk/leaflets.htm\here} and read the weaning onto solids....

ok, I am one of those creatures hated by mnetters - bottlefed dd from birth, weaned at 17 weeks. Don't care what average children do or what is recommended, did what was right for us.

"gave her baby rice at 8 weeks (with her milk)"

Well, that's mad by anyone's standards.

And you're not a hated creature, alexw. That's mad too.

I weaned dd1 at 15 weeks, i was told to by my health visitor, but that was before they changed it to 6 months, she was a very hungry baby.
13 weeks just seems too early.

Thanks for that, soupdragon. Am very defensive and lacking in confidence for some reason. Tend to lash out...

More calories in milk than the sludge most people wean their kids onto.

This alone shows that early weaning (because he/she was hungry) is utter madness and nonsensical.

marne, i'm with u on this one, mum tried to get me to start weaning Joey when we first went home, apparently I was weaned at 4 months and am fine so I should do the same with him! (althou I have IBS - doubt it's any link)

i've come to the conculsion all the time he's settleing with my milk then i'll feed and do milk only when he stops i'll try formula (dep on the timing) if it's around 5.5/6 months then i'll try the baby rice and then weaning foods etc.
