Weaning

Not interested in solids (7 months) - any similar experiences?

Could do with some advice/ any other experiences?

My LO is now 7months and a week old. We have been trying to wean since 6 months. She suffers from reflux - though this appears pretty much under control now with Neocate (possible MPI) and thickener and has never been all that interested in her milk. She has eaten something on a couple of occasions (so we think she can) but she has absolutely no interest in food (tried finger foods, eating in front of her, purees etc etc). She gets more excited about having a drink of water from her doidy cup than food (never shows any interest in what we are eating).

My question is have other people had babies like this and have they suddenly shown an interest? Her weight is ok so we are alright for the time being but obviously it is going to start being an issue soon.

many thanks
alice

ds took ages to get interested in food - we tried from 6mo, but it didn't take off at all till about 8mo and even then he didn't eat much till nearer 12mo. I remember feeling really frustrated with it at the time, especially because there's so much fuss about it from HVs and just about everyone else too, but I wish I'd just chilled about it.

Milk is nourishing enough at this age - it isn't really replaced by nourishment from solids until they're around 12mo.

I would maybe leave it a week or so and then try again in a low-key way. She'll be interested in it when she's ready.

My dd is nearly 8 months and exactly the same - just not interested. Some days it seems like food is the only thing she doesn't shove in her mouth. We did seem to be making progress a couple of weeks ago but then she got her first teeth and we're right back where we started.

My HV, who I like and respect a lot, said just not to worry about it too much - babies are all different and they eat when they feel like it. But it is hard and like you, I worry.

thanks everyone - sounds like i am not totally alone then! As a matter of interest - those of you whose babies werent intrested at 7 months - were they milk guzzlers or not that bothered about that either?

thanks

Mine's a milk guzzler. I suspect part of the problem actually is that she likes nice cuddly snuggly bottle feeds and isn't so fussed about being in her highchair.

my little boy is just over 7 months. I started weaning at 6 months and for the first 4 weeks all was smashing. Getting through nearly a jar of pureed fruit in a sitting. Then got a cough and a cold and conjuncitivitis now doesn't want anything. some days i;m lucky if he has two ice cubes of food. He is on 6 ounce bottles 4 times a day. but sometimes doesn't manage that. He also has started waking up in the night.

Its worrying, i know. but i'm just persevering.
