Do I need to catch up LO's bottles now he sleeps through the night?

Hi,

my son is 6 months next week. He has just started sleeping through the night. He used to have a 4 bottles during the day, and 1 bottle when he would wake during the night.
Now that he is missing his night feed, do I need to catch it up during the day, or is 4 bottles on 8oz's enough during the day?

We have literally just started BLW, so he won't be benefitting from food at the moment, as he is just starting to get a taste for food and the texture.

Any advise would be gratefully appreciated.

DD was on 5 bottles of 7 oz during the day - well...last one was at 11pm (dreamfeed of sorts!!)

When we dropped the 11pm feed, we just upped the morning bottle to 8oz, made the last 7pm bottle 8oz and the middle two, 7 ozs.

So in essence, no we didn't make it up really.

HV said, if they're still hungry, just give them a little more milk! If anything she said 5 bottles of 7 oz was too much (but I don't believe her, but there you go!)

I would say he doesn't need all that milk during the day either. You can count milky foods now including cheese and yoghurt. It's been a few years but I think it was 24 oz a day

if he is staying asleep then he must be having enough milk in the existing bottles. Does he drain his bottle and look as if he wants more? If he does, offer more but if he doesnt then stick with your existing amounts.

if he has just started BLW then he will need all the daytime milk until he starts taking larger amounts of food.

Thanks for all the advise.

Sometimes he looks for more food during the day, but never on his morning bottle. I think I will just continue with his day feeds as normal, but just drop the night feed then. I know he will tell me if he's hungry, I was just worried that he would't be getting enough.

Thanks again!

The minimum between 6 and 12 months is 20floz of first stage formula each day, that's if you're not bfing of course Smile

As long as he's getting the 2ofloz, I wouldn't worry.
