Weaning

Is the GF weaning book compatible with BLW? Advice please!!

DD is only 3 months but I like to read ahead!

I like the idea of BLW and it seems to have some benefits over purées; I also know many people who swear by the GF weaning book even though they never followed her routines at an earlier stage, but her recipes seem to be mostly purées (from glancing through the book).

Would buying the GF book be a waste of time? Could I replace her meals with finger food equivalents, or should I just get the BLW books instead? Thanks! Smile

Just replace her mealtimes (on the 'routine' times) with your own Blw substitutes. You may end up doing a
Mixture of Blw and purées (from experience this is what a lot of folk I know did)- and it worked ok with GF's timings!

I think the two approaches are diametrically opposed. With BLW, the point is that you cook healthy food for the whole family, chuck some of whatever you are eating in front of the baby, and leave them to do with it as you will. You really don't need a book, unless you want to buy a new cookery book for you all

Agree with dribbler. If you do want a book why not buy tithe blw book or borrow it from your library. The latter is probably better then you can return it if you think its not for you.

Ive weaned 2, one with purees and one blw. Blw is just so much easier. You don't need anyone to tell you when to feed your baby either just keep offering milk on demand and offer solids when its confident to you, not GF Smile

We eat around 7.30, 12 and 5 but all families are different.

Have you read the Mn info on weaning too, its very good Smile

I had a friend who is a GF fan and did BLW. Don't know the detail of how, and to me they do seem contradictory in ethos, but she did it so I imagine it must work somehow.

Agree with JiltedJules, get BLW book from the library to decide if right for you. It's a good book and will help you to decide what's better for you and your family. BLW doesn't suit everyone.

BLW and feeding purée on a routine don't sound compatible to me; but I will watch thread and may be corrected.

BLW is feeding on demand. Eat a healthy balanced diet as a family and give your dd some of what your eating. It genuinely is that simple. We read the BLW book (not the cook book) and haven't brought anything else, nor seperate foods for dd just our fruit bowl is more full than pre dd Smile

Which ever method you choose to feed your dd, the ultimate aim is for them to eat what you're eating. I have family and friends who did the purée route and their children were having different meals to the parents up to about 3 or 4 years old. Some of them just puréed what they were cooking, so that works too.

We did BLW and I think I've done my dd something separate only a handful of times in 14 months, ie when we've wanted to eat at a different times to her or have a yummy salty dominoes pizza Grin she eats most things and will try everything we have because we're eating it too. She may not like it straight away but we continue to offer it each time we have it and don't make a fuss of her at dinner. She ate a portion of chilli con carne and rice last night which was the same size as mine raising a pig GrinGrin

Offer solids when its convenient to you. Don't know where the confident came from.

Grin at fads little piggy. I know Annabel Karmel babies who are still having special little meals cooked for them at 6 and 8, years not pm! Grin
