Did you wean at 17 weeks ? I have seen a lot of reflux mums mention that they weaned early on the advice of paediatricians because of reflux?

My lo is 15 weeks and seems to struggle with taking larger amounts of milk but is v hungry he seems to go through growth spurts every week where one or two nights he will wake and take a lot 6-7oz every 3 hours but then the following days his reflux is worse with back arching and crying at feeds and only taking 4 oz again.

I am wondering about trying baby rice as have heard it can help (lo is on carobel T present no other meds)

Hi, my dd has silent reflux and is 21 weeks. We haven't started yet, as I have heard mixed stories from early weaning.
We use a combination of infant gaviscon and carobel added to expressed milk, with mixed results. What really made a difference was ranitidine as it helps reduce acid production. Maybe worth a mention to your gp or paed? I would thoroughly recommend!

Dd still feeds little but often too, night and flippin' day!

I was hoping not to have to use medication and I keep hoping it will improve soon as my older ds was great by 4 months on gaviscon ! I weaned him at 17 weeks but that was because he was guzzling 9 oz bottles every 2 hours by that age (was 98th percentile and still is for height and weight !)

This lo is completely different and am in 2 minds what to do !

My no longer so little one, she's 7 in a few weeks, had silent reflux and we were advised by a pead to wean early as she was failing to thrive. However although she loved the food, her digestive system wasn't ready for it and she literally didn't poo for 10 days after 3 days eating a little carrot or apple purée. In the end, although I tried a few times, I always had to stop due to constipation and she was weaned at 6.5 months. Once she was weaned she loved solids, refused milk, and her reflux improved and she grew rapidly and put on loads of weight. By 1 year her reflux was all but gone.

I remember the pead only recommended early weaning when a baby wasn't gaining weight. I know meds are a problem to administer, we were on gaviscon for awhile and then when it didn't help omeprazole, but they really helped dd sleep more comfortably and reduced her distress. Until weaned she fed about every hour and a half round the clock, I bf but she took ages to latch on, fussed and cried and never sucked for long, because it was painful.

I do hope it clears up for you soon, reflux is very distressing for babies, mums and the rest of the family. I was a zombie until dd was weaned and poor DS was neglected a bit.

Posted too soon - in between spurts he sleeps quite well but that just gets our hopes up and after 2 or 3 good nights he then goes back to feeding more frequently ! I just wondered if weaning would stop him suddenly taking so much and then suffering for it !
